i didnt see this posted anywhere and i thought it was kind of shocking...i like chris Chris Baker Had Requested A Trade Posted on April 24th, 2008 by Bassett Rich Cimini reports in the Daily News blog last night that Chris Baker had requested a trade and changed his representation to Pete Kendall?s agency. ?? Baker, who stopped participating in the Jets? voluntary offseason program three weeks ago because he?s unhappy with his contract, formally requested a trade but was denied by the team, his agent told the Daily News Wednesday. Baker, coming off his best season (41 catches, 409 yards, 3 TDs) has two years left on a four-year, $6.6 million contract. He expressed a desire for a new deal at the end of last season, but the Jets have shown no willingness to rework his contract. He?s due to make $683,000 in 2008, about $1 million less than his recently signed backup, Bubba Franks. ?When a New York Jet veteran underperforms, we know what happens,? Baker?s agent, Jonathan Feinsod, said. ?What does a veteran have to do to get paid when he outperforms his contract?? There?s no way the Jets trade Baker ? with two years left on a deal and at a bargain rate, this is what you hope for as a GM. Baker was the last guy on the list to re-work, and I think he?s in an unfortunate situation because of Dewayne Robertson?s status. This latest step Baker has taken though might have made it that much harder to get a deal done with him long-term. Kowalewski was average and better at blocking, Tutt is still and unproven project and more of an H-Back anyway. Add TE to the list of needs now ? as if CB, ILB, DE/OLB, WR and playmaker weren?t enough ? keep your eyes peeled for what the Jets do with the second pick ? http://www.thejetsblog.com/?p=4015
I think Baker is a good, underutilized TE, but he hasn't done shit to warrant this type of behavior. Who the hell does he think he is??? Don't let the door hit ya ...
I like Baker, but he's not good enough to pull a Chad Johnson. I'd like to hope we could get some value, but this statement makes that damn near impossible.
i've always thought Baker to be a good TE. but he signed the original contract and now wants out. how much did he really "outperform" that contract anyway? it's not about being fickle; it's about what's best for the team. and this type of behavior and distraction isn't. i still think he's a good player and still would like to see him here, but if he wants out then ohhh wellll.
Yeah we gave him love when he did his job well and STFU. Now he's acting like he's a superstar, and he's not. Are we allowed to change our opinions based on the events that have happened or are we forever committed to them? I'm sure Eagles fans loved T.O. before he started shitting on McNabb.
Baker's a pretty solid TE. Solid blocker, good hands, but he's replaceable. I hope we can come to some sort of an agreement because I like him, but if not, see ya.
Baker has two new agents. Baker's two new agents are the same agents that represent Pete Kendall. Baker's two new agents are also the same agents that almost held out their other client, Darrell Revis. Baker's contract was upgraded by the NYJs on 12 Dec 2007. Baker should shut the fuck up and play ball. I do not think that Baker's trade value will help the NYJs very much in improving their draft position.
I see his frustration but he just has no leverage at all here. There will be no trade and he will stay put and pull an Alen Fanaca type thing from last year. If he does well then they will resign him at the end of next year or just let him go, but no way a trade happens.
Hes hardly being a prima dona here. How many of you that work would like someone under you earning more? I at least think he should be on the same as Franks. Is it his fault that no one can get him the damn ball?
I've been defending Baker since he became a Jet, he's been of my favorites. That said, he hasn't done nearly enough to be acting like a superstar. This is really disappointing... You sign a contract, you should honor the contract.
I agree he should be paid as much as Franks, but that's the risk you take when you sign a contract in the NFL. Contracts escalate every year, which is why the highest paid players at any given position aren't always the best players at that position. I can see him wanting to renegotiate with 2 years, and demanding to renegotiate with a year, but to demand a trade now? That's ridiculous.
Send him to Oakland. Then when Miami sends Taylor there, the two of them can meet up with Lamont Jordan and all talk shit about the Jets as they lose 10 games. I've said it before, I'll say it again, he's an above average pass-catcher, but an average blocker at best. He's not elite in any facet of his game. Bye Chris.
They'll get it done. He'll still be in Green and White come week 1. I do see why he would be upset though when his back up is making more than he does.
