I would really like to draft a QB in the 4th. I think we could really find a Gem there, and if Clemens continues to suck, we got another Guy in place to compete for the Starting-Job next year. Dixon, Johnson, Booty, Brennan, Ainge, O'Connell all of them have the potential to be good NFL-QBs, and a steal in the 4th. I especially like Ainge and Dixon. Here?s something new about Dixon: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/04/23/SPK010AHFH.DTL
Josh Johnson's 43:1 ratio can't be ingored. Being a QB isn't that easy, so he needs to be looked at. One interview i read, he was intelligent and leader-like. Has great mobility- I'm thinking Tavaris Jackson without the suck.
In order of the ones I wouldnt mind in the 4th to be picked would be Johnson Ainge O'Connell Dixon Booty Keller Brennan
And that's a lot of suck to be without. What's that? Protection and an open receiver? I know! I'll throw off my back foot. How the fuck did he make it to the NFL?
I think it all depends on how the first two rounds go...if we trade down and pick up another 2nd or 3rd, then that could change the situation immediately, but I do think we'll draft a QB..
Andre Woodson, JD Booty, or Kevin O'Connell. If ANYONE drafts Colt Brennan, they are wasting a draft pick...and a roster spot on a "developmental" quarterback that's not going to develop.
Sam Keller, Nebraska/Arizona State: There was a time Keller appeared to be on his way to becoming one of the top prospects at his position. He was seen as an aggressive pure passer at Arizona State who had won over his teammates with his bravado and toughness in the pocket. But after a well-publicized QB controversy where Dirk Koetter displayed a fatal lack of leadership as head coach, Keller was demoted by a very close team vote when Bobby Carpenter’s family allegedly threatened to transfer after Koetter originally made the decision to give Keller his starting job back upon return from injury. Keller transferred to Nebraska where he demonstrated the humility to run the scout team for a year and learn the west coast offense—a style of play that is antithetical to his natural skills as a QB. Keller has good downfield accuracy, stands tough in the pocket, and has demonstrated the kind of persistence that comes with experiences such as what happened to him the past two years. These are the experiences that usually happen to players early in their pro career. I believe Keller’s arm, accuracy, and toughness will make him an intriguing mid-to-late round selection and in an offense that emphasizes the vertical passing game, Keller could thrive if he lands on a team that has decent pass protection.
Ainge is probably my favorite of them. He's got all the tools you look for as a franshise QB and is likely boom-or-bust. However, in the 4th, boom-or-bust prostects are a much better investment than earlier in the draft.
By the way, I used to be high on Keller, too, but he struggled every time I saw him last season for Nebraska. And not just during the huge slide that cost Callahan his job. Maybe the Callahan ties can have an influence in our draft.
Ainge would be the only player in the 4th that I would consider. I think he could potentially be a real good pro. JD Booty seems like he could be OK too, but I'm not sure I would give a 4th round pick for him.
Booty is my choice as a USC homer. If the guy had 1 more year starting experience he'd go in round 1 or 2. Having to sit behind Palmer and Leinart for 3 years really hurt his chances at gaining enough visibility in the NFL. He's a guy that will have to sit for a year or two, but has tremendous upside if he lands on a patient team.
I'll put money on this: If Mark Sanchez has a big year this season at USC, he'll be a first rounder if he comes out early.
Yea, I think Keller has the talent and potential, but Ainge gets the performance edge that separates them for me.
