We know he didn't like being around Benson in Chicago, this is almost an identical situation. I'm a little worried that he'll get a little unhappy with decreased carries if we take DMC. I'm sure they could form a good two-back tandem, but would he be happy with it? My questions: do you shop Thomas Jones around the league and try to recoup some draft picks? Would you be content with Leon and DMC? How do you think Jones would react to a DMC draft?
Jones would probably feel like we're screwing him like Chicago did. The difference would be that Jones did not have a particularly good year and therefore has less room to complain. I would definitely be willing to shop Jones if the cap hit isn't a problem. I'd love to go into next year with a combination of DMC/Leon/Chatman.
stats wise TJ hadd a pretty damn good year. Its not his fault the team wasnt out there much. His avg per carry was pretty good if memory serves me right.
regardless of what people think, mcfadden is not an every down back, he is more of a reggie bush type player so I think getting rid of TJ would be a horrible idea...people can learn from a veteran like him and I am sure he is not going to be traded this year at all
jones is a power back, mcfadden is a speedster. 2 different types of runners. getting DMC, does not make jones expendable. if anything, it makes washington expendable, but i would'nt trade him for anything! if we do get DMC, get ready to see him used all over the field. i bet he's on the field with jones and washington, more often then not.
I agree. That three-headed combo really has the best of all worlds. Chatman would be the short-yardage back, Leon could spell DMC for certain plays, and DMC would carry most of the load. I really think Jones is expendable if we take McFadden- his best value to the team may be as part of a trade to get some 3rd or 4th round picks. I also don't see Jones as a power back- yes he's strong but I don't remember him really running over linebackers at any time last year. He's more of a finesse back in a power back's body IMHO.
nooooooooooooooooooo way, If I am not mistaken he is making around 4 or 5 mil a season he is great we need him to balance the carries so McFadden does not have a huge load
I agree with that. The days of a one back NFL team rushing the ball 30 times a game are going the way of the Edsel.
Thomas Jones had no problem in chicago...he got his yards and was the starter his problem was his contract...and chicago didnt want to pay with the big investment in benson jones is effective when splitting carries and mcfadden isn't an every down back...b/c those don't exist anymore(or at least for more than 2 seasons) having two potential starters is great....leon is a good 3rd down back, but not a potential starter i have no problem carrying 4 quality rbs into the season
U forgot the 06 season when he was a fulltime starter. I like him more as a Fulltime RB than an occasional one. I think he's better than TJ. He has alot of football left as well. TJ will be thirty when season starts. TJ only has no more than 2 good yrs left. However, I think we will be taking a $9M cap hit for 2009 if he is released/traded this yr. We can not let him go for the time of his contract either. He'll be released after his contract.
Since when did 3.6 ypc stink? You do realize if you run for 3.6 yards every play you would never need to pass don't you???
“Whatever guy comes in who is a running back, I’m a veteran in this league,” Jones said in December. “It will be my ninth year and I have a lot of knowledge that can help a young back become a better back.” http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show/2147-leon-says-jets-rbs-can-definitely-improve-
