Well, just to keep the rumor mill going full speed, the Daily news says the Jets interest in trading up is not for Ryan but for McFadden. No doubt that NY has become his second home. There is more than just smoke to this.

It's pretty obvious to me after this that McFadden is the guy they want. You just don't spend that much time with one guy and screw with him like that if you aren't really interested.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...jets_may_trade_up_to_get_arkansas_rb_dar.html

"Darren McFadden was in New York Tuesday for the second time in less than a week. The former Arkansas star has a hunch he could be spending a lot of time in these parts after the Jets make their first draft pick on Saturday.

"I feel like if I'm there at No. 6, they're going to take me," McFadden told the Daily News at a promotional appearance in lower Manhattan.

The Jets own the sixth selection in the draft, and there is a growing belief around the league that McFadden is one of their targets. Concerned the Raiders (No. 4) might select the dynamic running back, the Jets may try to trade up (the Rams are at No. 2) for McFadden, according to a league source."

"McFadden came away with a "great feeling" from the Jets and he believes they are satisfied that his well-documented off-the-field issues (two night-club altercations and unresolved paternity cases) are history. He told the Jets and other teams that he is planning to have an older sister, Gaylan Muhammad, 22, move with him to the city where he plays.

Muhammad, who graduates from the University of Memphis next month, will handle his personal affairs - a gesture that should tell potential employers he is serious about staying out of trouble. Muhammad accompanied McFadden last week on his visit to the Jets' facility, where he spent time discussing the incidents with security director Steve Yarnell.

"I feel like they're pretty convinced I'm a great guy who just made mistakes," said McFadden, who also met with Eric Mangini, GM Mike Tannenbaum, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and running backs coach Jimmy Raye on his visit.

During their meeting, Raye tried to call former Jets great Curtis Martin to have him speak with McFadden, but he couldn't reach him. Martin, a shining example of someone who overcame a tough upbringing, still lives in the area and would be an ideal mentor.

The Jets have done an inordinate amount of homework on McFadden, even calling former high school coaches and teachers from his home in Little Rock, Ark. Tannenbaum, in a news conference last week, refused to characterize the organization's feelings about McFadden's character.

In a good-will gesture, McFadden came to New York a day ahead of the five other draft invitees and spent an hour at a downtown recreation center, where he addressed about 20 kids on the importance of physical fitness. It also was a promotion for the soon-to-be released movie "Iron Man." He heard a lot of Jets chatter from the group."

This is the situation that frightens the shit out of me. no third or fifth round pick. trade up and wind up selecting a grand total of 4 players in the draft for two straight years. The draft is supposed to be a teams bread and butter. They did a great job in selecting two starters last year. But depth is built in the draft, not free agency.

while i also worry about our lack of total # of picks, i also believe if you've got an opportunity to draft a rare talent, someone who can ignite your team from the first snap of the season, then you've got to get that guy. the FO obviously believes DARREN MAFADDEN, is that guy. they better be right.

exactly, especially when it appears that Mcfadden will be staring us in the face, why would we move up to get him? Honestly as i have said several times, the only player i can see us moving up for is Chris Long. Long fills our need for the pass rushing OLB, is a better prospect than Gholston, and Ryan is likely to be around after #2 so we wouldnt need to move up that far, and again, if the Rams want Dorsey at #3 we could trade up with Atlanta, it would be cheaper in picks and on the wallet in order to obtain Mcfadden if we really are worried about the Raiders taking him...

I think they still worry Oakland will take him. Especially if Gholston goes at 2 or 3. Maybe they have gotten wind that somebody else may be trying to trade up for him...like the Pats. Of course there is always Dallas lurking as well.

It may also have to do with the fact they don't think they can make a trade with Atlanta (They may still be pissed at the Abraham trade), Oakland (because Davis is senile) or KC.

We cannot keep giving up draft picks every year, it was greta that we got 2 potential stars on D last year but you cannot bank on that every year. Especially w/ all the $ we have handed out, we need those 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounders to work out b/c they will e cheap for a few years.

true I just assumed atlanta would be willing to deal with the Jets, however I'm not sure why Atlanta is pissed about the Abraham deal, he was our "franchise" player, so clearly he was worth a first rounder, and because we had a better offer than they were giving us, so they had to acquire a better pick to get Abraham, thats just good management on our end. If Atlanta wasn't desperate for Abraham they wouldnt have worked so hard to get him...

Only because he missed 8 games his first year. Not our problem but still may piss them off.

Makes all the sense in the world for the Jets to want McFadden. The team has been built in the off season to run the ball. They bring in a coach known for running the ball. A QB won't help for a year and they want to win this year.

Here is how I see it as of now-
    1. Atlanta wants Ryan b/c Dorsey will go at #2. They know they can "probably" trade down to #6 or #7 and still get him.
    2. However- Baltimore, Carolina, Chicago could trade up to say #5 to get him, unless KC is set on Long if he drops.
    3. If the Jets want McFadden they could swap with Atlanta only if Atlanta knows that KC will not trade out of the pick and let someone come in and snag Ryan.
    4. Oakland is sitting in the catbird seat right now. They know they are getting a good player and get to watch everyone squirm all around them..

I want McFadden. I don't want to trade up for anyone unless they are firmly convinced VG, Chris Long, and DMC are all gone. Hopefully Atlanta takes Ryan, and St. Louis takes Dorsey. If the first 3 picks in the draft go like that, we're sitting pretty. KC's pick is also a wildcard; they could do a lot of things.

Well, I mean it worked out so well for the Saints when they mortgaged the future to pick up Ricky Williams. He was a can't miss prospect at RB with off the field issues, and he'll be rolling into the HOF in a Saints uni.

If a player is rated that highly by the team then I don't have a problem with trading up. Ask the Giants if they regret trading so much for Manning. It might take awhile to get an answer because they're still reaping the benefits of their championship. Bottom line is if McFadden is going to put us over the top and this is the only way to get him then you pull the trigger.

In other news the Jets might trade up for someone else...or trade down for someone else...or stay at their pick and pick someone else...or stay at their pick and draft McFadden...

No. We stay at #6 and get either Chris Long, Darren McFadden or Vernon Gholston. We don't need to lose more picks.

I dont think Oakland will take him ...they have a shitload of running backs now ...plus money is tight over there from what i hear...they need to spend it wisely and i think they go Defense!! ... leaving McFadden to fall in our laps, if that is our pick....agreed we do not need to give away picks becuase this is a deep draft and some solid picks can come in the 2nd 3rd 4th rounds.(However i dont think we have a 3rd). I say we stay the course and let the draft COME to us. We are in a good position!!!

But hey who knows what the hell will happen -- Nothing ever plays out the way it is "supposed too".

Saturday cant get her quick enough!!
