From KFFL: Falcons | Team looking to trade down, still want McKelvin Tue, 22 Apr 2008 22:43:13 -0700 Josh Buchanan, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the Atlanta Falcons are looking to move down in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft, but they would still like to select Troy CB Leodis McKelvin. Saints | Team looking to trade up for McKelvin Tue, 22 Apr 2008 22:41:28 -0700 Josh Buchanan, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the New Orleans Saints are looking to trade up for Troy CB Leodis McKelvin. The Saints worked McKelvin out Tuesday, April 22, and came away very impressed. The Saints are afraid the New England Patriots or Baltimore Ravens will get McKelvin, so they are looking to move up from No. 10 overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. So now, after the rumors that the Saints wanted to trade up to #2 to take Glenn Dorsey, they're now saying they want Leodis McKelvin. Ditto for the Falcons. Quite interesting that the two teams discussed as likely places for Dorsey are now both claiming they really want McKelvin. My guess is the Falcons are trying to keep the Saints from trading up with the Rams. Not sure what the Saints' motivation is, though, unless all their Dorsey talk earlier was just posturing. Got to love this draft.
Saints can trade up to 6 and grab McKelvin right before NE and BAL and the Jets can take someone like Mendenhall. That wouldent be too bad. They owe us anyway for us giving them Vilma.
I wouldn't mind swapping with the Saints and grabbing someone like Stewart or Mendenhall at 10 at all if they really like McKelvin that much.
ESPN reported this morning that St Louis has asked the NFL for permission to begin contract negotiations. The name that came up was Dorsey. The NFL said hold off for now but will give a final answer today. This has never happened before where the number 1 pick was signed so early so they really don't have a rule in place to cover what happens next. So if Dorsey is gone that would be why Atlanta would want to trade down now and why NO wouldn't bother to trade up.
So here, i'm going to throw this out there again.... Jets move down to #10 when Chris Long, and Mcfadden are both gone by #5 and, Gholston likely to go at #5. So at #10 the Jets don't have a great spot to pick anybody they really want/need. So they slide down to #19 with Phillidelphia for #19 Lito sheppard and a 4th rounder... at #19 the Jets have a lot of options, Stewart, Groves, Merling, Sweed, Mayo, Jenkins, Cherilus. At 19 we have lots of options for highly talented players, AND we pick up a starter opposite Revis who is immensely talented, former pro-bowler. Not a bad deal for the Jets who pick up at worst a 4th (possiblya 3rd) Philly and likely a second from New Orleans. We could even throw in D-rob to Philly and they might have to give us their second instead of a 3rd...
Only 1 monkey wrench...Lito's gonna want a new HUGE contract that we may not be able to afford right now.
Lito just got a new deal a year or two ago didnt he? also regardless if the money is allready spent on D-rob who won't be here next year I say put some of it to Sheppard. Mostly in incentives of course, if he stays healthy for a year he gets a bonus, and if he stays healthy for 2 straight years, a bigger bonus and what not of the sort...
If they really wanted to, The Falcons could probably just package their 3 second-rounders and move back up to take McKlevin. Then they'd have Ryan/Dorsey & McKlevin, and two 3rd-rounders.
That was another discussion I heard. New England was mentioned as a team that would be willing to trade down for those 3 second rounders. At the time, it was a discussion about trading back into the round to take Matt Ryan if they got Dorsey with the first pick.
