Russell signed a six year deal worth up to 68 million and got 31.5 guaranteed.

only thing that counts is guaranteed, so going down 1.5 will get the NLPA mad at Long and Conlon, no??

Hey, It's better than no options....

I preached about Long (Michigan Fan). The guy is a force and a true Tackle, not a Project.

The funny thing is we get VG, it'll be Michigan - Ohio state twice a year for years to come... That's entertainment.

    great move by tuna.
safe pick in his 1st pick as Dolphins Majordomo.

Long wil lstart, be there a long time. It will be hard to crap on this pick. Gets him off to a 'hey , he drafted a good one' mind-set.

Plus a locker-room guy who will impart the Tuna philosophy. i.e. Long aint a thug.

Nope, disagree. We were so active in FA filling all the major holes. We can afford to take BPA.

    we have SERIOUS depth problems.

but a trade down is not likely, i agree.

Awesome news that fares well for our ability to get a great player or trade down to someone who does.

Just to give everyone an idea of why this guy is the #1 overall, just look at how he contrasts with his peers:

who cares. so he is a free agent a year earlier.
if he is good he will want to stay in miami. if he is good he wil lhave gotten a extension before 5th year up anyways.

Its all about whats guranteed, this isnt MLB or the NBA.

no way raiders pass on Chris Long. howies kid, top 3 player in the draft and did i mention howies kid. nothing would fill the seats and sell more jerseys than that.

no way we sit on the 6 pick with all of gholston, chris long , and DMAC on our laps. thatd be insane. and yes alot of us would have some cleaning up to do. haha

I've heard rumors of a tiff between long and davis...anyone else?

Harkening back to the thread about who would be the best trade bait...I think that is what this draft really comes down to. I believe the overall consensus on this board was to trade down. I think long going to the raiders would let DMC fall to us, making for a great trade-down scenario in which we pick up two of Sweed, Stewart, and/or Groves.

Aright figured Long at number 1 to the Fins now at 2. i dont see the Rams passing on Chris Long at 3. Falcons could go either D-Line with Glenn Dorsey which there in love with or go for Matt Ryan at 4. The Raiders i think would take McFadden but they love justin fargas and they still have LaMont jordan and Dominic Rhodes but neither of those guys are a Darren McFadden but they could go for Gholston at 4 aswell then at 5. Chiefs gotta go with O-Line either Brandon Albert from Virginia or Clady from boise st. and 6. The Jets its either gonna be Darren McFadden or Vernon Gholston in my opinion the Raiders are the wild card to see who we take... McFadden or Gholston. I Would be fine with Either.

I hope we dont have to make a choice and its already made. Either Long, Gholston, or McFadden is available. But only one of them is available, not two and definately not 3. It can be either one of them. Cuz once we pick, the next person goes to Cheatriots and that would be bad news.

Here's the least attractive scenario that is still in play:

    1. MIA: J Long
    2. STL: C Long
    3. ATL: M Ryan
    4. OAK: McFadden
    5. KC (or trade): Gholston

In this scenario, nobody would be willing to trade up for what's left, so trading down is highly unlikely. So we'd be left with either one of the two d-tackles that don't fit the 3-4 or reaching for a CB. At this point, I'd reach for Mendhall...

With Jarod Allen being dangled as bait, they could trade up with the Raiders, take Gholston and the Raiders take McFadden. (I don't think we get either.)
