I highly doubt Groves gets past Miami if they end up with Jake Long in the 1st. Cliff Avril out of Perdue should be available at Philly's pick in the 2nd and is essensially in the same mold as Groves (he's 6-2 253 with 4.51 speed vs. Groves' 6-3 259 4.57 40). He's also had more well rounded stats than Groves, compiling more tackles vs. a few less sacks. He also comes from a Perdue program that is known to churn out 3-4 OLBs like Roosevelt Colvin, Shaun Phillips, and Anthony Spencer.

He reminds me a TON of Phillips and would fit in very well at WSOLB for us.

DRob and the first 4th rounder for Lito would be awesome too.

We dont have a need at RB, but I wouldnt mind DMc. We surely need a CB though. I dont think Poteat (if resigned) is a consistent CB.

I think everyone agrees this would be a great deal for the Jets. Anychance the jets then trade there 2nd and 3rd to try to get Sweed.. I think we need someone to replace stone hands Justin

49ers | Groves would like for team to take him if available
    Sun, 20 Apr 2008 17:34:47 -0700

Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports University of Auburn DE Quentin Groves said he hopes the San Francisco 49ers take him with their first-round draft choice if he is still available. "I'm praying they take me -- I'm praying they take me. If I'm not gone by 28, then I pray the 49ers take me at 29. And if I'm not gone at 29, then, whatever team that takes me is going to take me. I'm not going to cry about it. I'm not going to moan that I should've gone here or I should've gone there. I'm going to be in the National Football League and I'm going to make you pay. The teams that passed on me are the teams that are going to pay," Groves said.

After reading this...I'm hoping Groves falls to us and we take him....we need more players that are going to play with a chip on their shoulders.

That's the same mentality Coles came into the league with and I always loved that. Why's he so for San Francisco though?

I have no idea why he would want to play in SF..other than Willis and Gore, that team is garbage..maybe somebody should tell Groves that Steve Young retired

San Francisco is a NICE place to play football...

He would get to start day one...

He would get to play along side Willis...

He would be in a defense and postion that would fit him the best (3-4 OLB)...

If the niners took him, he would be a first round pick...

Those are just a couple of reasons why he would want to get drafted by the niners.

This would be a great move. Keep the draft pick and move down but pick up a starting CB who is young and has alot of talent. Sign me up.

    Maybe he's gay.

  11. Yea this is similar to whe pal Posluszny was proclaiming to the media how badly he wanted to be a jet last year. He knew it maybe his only chance to go in the 1st round. As expected he went in round 2.

SF is a shithole...with a shitty team...that hasn't sniffed a playoff berth since Jeff Garcia was there.....yeah, that would be my first choice too.

I'll take it a step further....maybe he's gay, loves "Full House", and enjoys Rice-a-roni.

No one is taking into account that we would have to give Lito a huge contract. I'll pass, we need to build the team from within, we don't need another cornerback making big money. We need more draft picks and more pass rushers.

Not only would it not be as hefty as DRob's, but he's been hurt and we could likely get away with an incentive-laden deal.

If this deal happens Im almost positve we are looking at Dmac or Ryan in the Draft and going best available De/olb in the second round

I agree. I wish people would look beyond the names and their desire for "explosive" running backs or receivers and past pro-bowl cornerbacks and realize that the game is won and lost in the trenches, that a pass rush is far more important than a secondary, and that big money spent on running backs and cornerbacks is money most likely wasted.

Running backs can be found in the late rounds of a draft and I'd rather not pay a veteran cornerback. Draft defense with the first pick and let's build a winning team for once.

His current contract would only count 3.25 million towards the cap as opposed to 11 something for drob. We wouldn't save all 11 if we trade drob but we'd end up +5 million or so in cap room which we need right now. Lito's contract is good through 2011.

Is there a reason we'd need to change Lito's contract?

Sorry if I'm wrong about this but I've looked everywhere I can think of on the web for more information on this rumor and the ONLY place anything has been said about it that I can find is in this thread. Please provide more sources if they are out there.

Isn't that exactly what we are doing by getting another top CB for the second year in a row.
