I started thinking about this the other day. If Parcells is successful in getting somebody to sign a contract for 10 or 15 million dollars less than Russell got last year how will it affect the rest of the draft? Everyone drafted after that person ill claim it's a false contract nd they should still get top money. The GMs of course will point to that contract and try to get everybody to sign for less. Add to that the new draft value chart making the rounds where the top 5 picks are all valued less and picks 6-31 are all valued higher this year. All of those people will want more money than 6-31 got last year and again the GMs won't pay it. This could be the year where nobody is signed before camp opens.
the #1 pick won?t sign for $10-15 M less than russell. and that "new value chart" means nothing, it?s something one guy came up with, nothing more, get over it. every team values the picks different, and adjusts several times on draftday, depending on who they already picked and who is still on the board. it?s more art than science.
Haha..get over what? We aren't talking about picks here, we are talking about getting players signed and the approach that agents and GMs will take to going that. Don't be too sure that Parcells couldn't get Gholston to sign for 10-15 million less when his other option may be to fall out of the top 10.
worst case scenario for Gholston is #7. and he?ll get about $15 M less than russell there plus he doesn?t have to play in miami.
Only if NE doesn't trade out of the #7 spot which is likely. Anyway, I would be willing to bet the farm that the #1 pick will not get equal to or more than the 63 million Russell got last year. So, whether it is 5 million, 10 million or 15 million (as Miami has offerred Long) it will be less and that will set in motion everything I mentioned above.
