These mocks are getting out of hand but they make the time pass at least. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/don_banks/04/17/mock.draft6.one/index.html?eref=T1 "I really wanted to give the Jets Matt Ryan in this slot, on the basis that there's no indication that New York knows whether or not Kellen Clemens is the answer. But I've talked to people who have convinced me that the Jets won't go the franchise quarterback route. That points me in the direction of Long, my former No. 1 overall pick who has fallen out of serious contention in Miami, and doesn't have a home in the top five any more. If the Jets don't love Long and are in mood to shop the pick, they might have teams interested in trading up for either Sedrick Ellis or Ryan."
Boy would I be a happy fella if that happened. IMO if Long fell to KC the Pats would trade up to get him, and Herm would be grinning.
That's exactly what I was thinking too. That would probably leave us competing with at least the Pats to move up to #5. Then again, we could trump them and move up to 4 instead. It appears Davis would still get McFadden at #6 and an extra pick as well and he wouldn't have to make the suicidal political decision of not taking Howie Long's kid. We could probably make that move for our lower #4. Of course all of that assumes he wants McFadden and we want Long.
I'm very opposed to moving up in this draft but if Long got to #5, which I doubt, I would be very tempted to go after him. Problem is, you know Herm would do everything he could to shaft us.
If we can get Long at 4, I say we trade up....obviously the chiefs wouldn't pick McFadden, but would the Pats trade up to 5 to get him?? I don't know what's going to happen but I can't wait for draft day.
Herm would want out badly at 5 to get better value for Clady which of course is because Long is gone, but who knows for sure Ellis and Dorsey are both awesome cover 2 DTs and it is highly possible to bounce with their 2nd rounder into what is being called the year of the OT. But becaue of the Herm/NYJ/Patriots connection I could see himself laughing his ass off to hand Long to the Patriots. It would be scary with Herm controlling our pick at 6 to that degree
I tell ya, I want Mcfadden bad, but if they ended up with Chris Long, that would be awesome, also !!!
If Chris Long is at 4 and Davis is willing to trade down for McFadden or Gholston, I think I might just do it. There's no player I want less on the Pats than Long and this is probably the single scenario where you actually give a rats ass of what the Pats are doing with their pick. On a side note I think we have the advantage of trading with Oakland because they got burned by the Randy Moss trade from the Pats and I doubt Davis likes that very much. On the contrary, as mentioned above, if Long falls to 5 then the Pats have the upper hand as I think Herm would take any opportunity he could to screw us.
I would much rather have Long than McFadden (you can tell from the two draft dreams I have had, we got Chris Long in both). I just don't see him falling to us.
i'm beginning to think that the other prospects are beginning to look more attractive because their talents are being discovered at a later time than Long's. I equate it to Dorsey and Ellis- we know how good they are, but this other kid looks amazing on tape! (draft stock zooms up) Dorsey will be picked top 5, he's just too good- still being called best player in draft. Long may fall due to the fighting over Gholston, J Long, and DMC.
The funny thing about this is that I just opened my new SN NFL Draft Preview and he says D'Brickashaw Ferguson is the NFL player he can't wait to face. It would be ironic for him I suppose if they got to play together again. He could face him in scrimmage everyday!
Haha okay, so I see many of you think that Herm would love to screw us by trading down to the pats instead of us if Long is there at 5. I think you'll all be pleased to find out however that Herm Edwards is not the GM of the Chiefs, and that whatever negative feelings Herm has toward the Jets will have no impact on what the Chiefs FO does during draft day. They will do what's best for their team and their organization, I'm sure screwing the Jets is not a top priority. The Chiefs already have enough of their own problems to deal with.
Thank you Brien's a bum. Just Because herm coaches the chiefs does not mean he can screw the Jets because he isn't the GM! besides i'm not sure why you all think that he wants to screw us anyways, he didnt want to be here, so we shipped him to where he wanted to go. besides has anybody watched the Pats MO the past "few" drafts? they don't move up in round 1, hell they hardly ever stand pat, they trade back to aquire a second first rounder the next year, so clearly I think the Pats will trade down if at all possible and if not, I doubt they will be moving up.
The only way i see the pats moving up is if they really feel like screwing us. thats a distinct possibility after all they did lose their other first round pick because we snitched on them.
By Kiper yes, but i've seen in other places where Dorsey is the best prospect. The leg thing may have dropped him from the #1 spot, but i don't think that should be an issue. This kid is a 12 year player with one question about him- the upper leg injury. DMC has a alot of questions, which, IMO- makes him less of a prospect.
Ah..that's the difference. McFadden is being called the best player entering the draft, not the best prospect.
