Ok, this has been bantered about for weeks now. A lot of the most recent mocks have both McFadden and Gholston being on the board at #6. Of course Miami could take Gholston at #1 if he willing to accept the cheapest contract and that would change everything.

    Let's assume that doesn't happen.

    Who do the Jets take?

Almost all of the "experts" are saying Gholston isn't worthy of a top 10 pick and that McFadden is the best player in the draft. Right or wrong, that's what they say.

There is also a good chance that NE will trade down but that hasn't happend as of yet and probably wouldn't happen until after we made our pick.

Do you take McFadden or Gholston knowing full well that NE may very well take the one you don't?

I say the safest bet is for the Jets to take McFadden. If he ends up busting, so be it but you are going with the "smart" thinking. If you take Gholston and McFadden turns into a star the media and probably the owner will never get over it. If you take Gholston and it turns out the "experts" are right about him then you are in real trouble.

Don't think for a second that having NE behind us doesn't play into this.

i can see your reasoning. if it comes down to those two, i think the reward needs to be considered.

    they can both bust.

    or they can both flourish.

but who has the higher ceiling? in other words, what can Gholston potentially become and what can McFadden potentially become? in this case, I'd go with McFadden.

I agree. I don't think trading down is even an option at that point as we would potentially be leaving both of them on the board for NE to choose from. The only way we trade down is before the draft.

yeah, unless somehow they're both off the board, along with both Longs -- i think that's the only way they trade down during the draft, but even that may be unlikely, because who'd want to move up?

We have a solid offense right now with the additions to our offensive line. It is time to get a player that can shorten our drives and score TOUCHDOWNS.

Can't wait to get a McFadden jersey.

I'd rather be able to get at the QB then have a flashy running back. Gholston has the tools to be an elite pass rusher off the edge. He'd be my choice.

We Just signed Pace and We have T.J. and Leon at RB but if you really thing about it T.J. is a good solid back but he is 30 and Leon is more of a backup at the moment so taking McFadden with his speed and playmaking ability and let em sit a season i would love that to happen. If the pick happens to be Gholston i'll be happy with it aswell.

In that case I think you go BPA and you go McFadden.

However, I'd honestly be happy with either.

I'm not a fan of McFadden really. Isn't a pounder in my eyes. I'd take Gholston. A pass rush is the most important thing on defense.

a lot depends on what happens before the jets pick. If both are there take the pass rusher you want games with that see also NY Giants v.s Patriots

I would take McFadden becase he is the better player...the kid is a star and the Jets are lacking stars.

    F the Pats

GHOLSTON, no question about it! The last time I saw a guy from Ohio State that impressed me with his ability to get to the quarterback was Will Smith and he's having a great career with the Saints. And I have to say that I would rather have Vernon Gholston on the JETS then seeing him in a Patriots jersey flexing his muscles after sacking our quarterback.

I hate to say this, but if you asked me the exact same thing after seeing what rabid passrushers can do to the almighty Pat's offense, I'd go with Vernon in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I, like most people, forget that a bit and now I'd say the flashy offensive weapon.

Truth be told, I'd be ecstatic with either of them.

I'd take Gholston but I'm sure they won't both be there at 6!

I would want them to take Gholston just because I think it would look cooler on the back of a Jets jersey.

Seriously though we have a much higher need for a pass rusher than we do for a running back, it would be foolish to pick McFadden since it is very unlikely he'll be an Adrian Peterson like talent and if he isn't that good then he isn't much of an upgrade over Thomas Jones and Washington.
