Rematches from last weekend: 4/16: Buchholz (0-1) vs. Wang (3-0) 4/17: Beckett (1-1) vs. Mussina (1-2)
2 home and then 10 more back on the road. I'll be glad when this stretch is over. I hope either Posada or Molina returns behind the plate tonight. We need the extra bat against the Sox.
The time off got Jeter back on track. Came back hitting less than .200 and is now back over .300. Looks like Igawa and Ramirez are pitching well and would probably get the call if there is a need. Duncan is still tearing it up and I hope they get him back soon. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ibp&cid=531&stn=true&sid=t531
The pitching situation will get interesting if Bruney and Farnsworth have a couple more bad outings. Otherwise, I don't forsee much change in the near future. I'd love to see Duncan come back up and take over for Giambi. He finally got his wish to play first every day, and he still isn't hitting.
That's true, but I'm really not hoping for any futher injuries. Except Giambi. I almost wish he'd get put on the DL and get Duncan back with the club.
Yeah, they really need him back. As it is they have no RH PH now. He went down because of Jeter's injury but that's resolved now. The problem is that Gonzalez did so well he may stick. Then Posada goes lame and they have to bring up Moeller and until that gets fixed I don't think he gets a chance. Damn injuries.
Well, the Yankees should be pursuing a trade involving Giambi. Send him anywhere, pay the rest of his salary for the year, and ask for a bucket of batting practice balls in return. Put him on the DL if you have to. Just get his ass off the field. I like Gonzalez. And with Betamit out, he has a big opportunity right now.
Maybe Gonzalez will prove me wrong, but I wouldn't put much stock in him. Good/great glove. Shit for a bat. (Small sample size you've seen in his first few games notwithstanding.)
I'm in agreement with you. However, just like Molina is hitting better than his own norm, Gonzalez would hit above his natural talent in this overall lineup. Naturally Gonzalez and Molina will see more strikes than anyone else in the lineup, simply because they're the only two on the team who aren't capable of changing a game on one swing. I'll take the superb defense of both with the decent offensive performance. It was the same ready I liked Phillips or Mientkiewicz at first. There's more than enough pop in this lineup. A couple guys who can make contact and prevent unearned runs to spell our regulars is invaluable. Of course this doesn't mean I'd give Gonzalez Jeter's job. I'd just keep him as the utility infielder. Betemit doesn't impress me much anyway.
Hawkins gives up #21 for #22. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news...t_id=2533255&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy He had to change his number so he wouldn't be treated horribly by his own fans. Sometimes I forget how terrible some Yankees fans are.
Nice article on Wang http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/albert_chen/04/15/wang0421/index.html?eref=T1 That's great new on Joba's dad.
If Wang can beat the Red Sox two games in a row I will start to believe that maybe he is our ace. Especially in a span of only a few days.
Back to back...Abreu and Arod and Arod's was a monster (caps)..they just said that was one of the longest home runs you will ever see by a right handed batter at Yankee stadium.
he New York Yankees' value increased to $1.306 billion over the past year, according to the annual estimates by Forbes magazine, a rise of 9 percent over the past year. Baseball franchise values The New York Mets were second at $824 million and the Boston Red Sox third at $816 million, the magazine said Wednesday. After that, there was a big gap to the Los Angeles Dodgers ($694 million) and the Chicago Cubs ($642 million). http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10783027 And I assume that doesn't even include the new stadium yet. Wonder what it will be after that is added.
