Here's how the Ryan pick could be justified by the FO:
    1. Two years of Clemens in the system, and he's not the answer.
    2. Matt Ryan will be a franchise quarterback.
    3. Ryan is the best player on the board.
    4. We're a quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender.

If you believe those 4 things, then Matt Ryan makes sense.

Personally, I think Ryan is being inflated because of the lack of a legit franchise QB in the draft, and I'm not ready to give up on Kellen (though in a year, I may change my mind).

You're right. This is the worst QB class in years. None of them are worth a top 10 or maybe even a top 20 pick but there are always teams that need one and that is why he is so high in the mocks. He will be the first one taken but it is my guess that 5 years down the road he won't be the best of this class.

I believe McFadden and Gholston would contribute from game 1 of 2008. Ryan would not though. Guarenteed.

  6. Fantastic post and I feel the exact same way.

Drafting Ryan as the #6 overall pick in the draft tells us two things.
1)Pennington has no future with the Jets.

2)The Clemmens pick was a bust. Also we will be on a new 3 yr plan as we wait for Ryan to develop.Picking Ryan here would also tell us that Woody is standing pat with his two boy wonders. The more you hear the rumors and the time the Jets front office and coaching staff have put in to Ryan tells me any way that the Jets might not be bluffing any more with picking Ryan.

Considering that Pennington got sacked 26 times in 8 Games should tell you that there is no credible way to evaluate the QBs on the roster, given the OLine.

Another meaningless comparison to a player at the same position that didn't work out. I happen to think that Matt Ryan is a much better prospect then Alex Smith ever was.

You can find a player from every position that hasn't worked out for any number of reasons. I dont think it would be a good idea for the Jets to pass on Matt Ryan because Alex Smith didnt work out for the 49ers.

Alex Smith was an extreme reach by a team with an extreme need at the position. You can't count that.

Matt Ryan is being given the same grade as the three 2004 QB's which is much better than smith.

If the Jets picked Ryan then all Jets message board servers would probably crash at the same time. Then when they came back up there would be tons of new threads on the oh so rarely discussed QB situation. That would be refreshing.

Yes they did but neither did they have a major impact on the teams in year 1. There is no position player who can have more of an impact on our team in year 2 and on than a bonafide top QB.

I can't disagree with that, but I don't think Ryan is one. Thus, I think picking him would be a waste of the Jets' pick. I still want to give Clemens a chance, I mean he hasn't really had one. Came in with a 1-7 team with a horrible O-line and banged up recievers.

all this kid does is win, and his attitude is better than any QB that has come out of college in the last 4 years. I love what this kid says in his interviews, its way beyond the normal BS. It will take the right system but he's going to do fine as long as he is not apart of a franchise that is a perennial loser.

Bingo! you nailed it. Only our FO kows what they really think of Clemens. I feel he can do it, but I am not there day in and day out to see the progress he is making, or not making. If they feel that KC is not the answer, then by all means they may take Rayn, if he is there, at #6.

The Cowboys took two QB's the year the took Akiman. The other being Steve Walsh in the supplematal daft. Its not out of the question for a team to want to groom two young QB's.

HELL NO, i dont want matt ryan, we already have a young qb w/potential, his name is kellen clemons, he wasnt a 2nd rd pick for nothing, jesus guys, clemons started 7, 8 games last season w/a bad o-line, no coles for 5 of those games and your ready to draft a qb w/the 6th pick??????????? if clemons plays bad this season then ok, lets go get somebody next season,

the 6th pick needs to be on one of the studs, the longs, mcfadden, or ghoslton,
now maybe if we trade out and get another 1st rd pick or and early 2nd rd pick then maybe just maybe i can see us taking m.ryan w/like the 22,23,24 e.c.t pick, but not the #6 pick overall
