Jets | Team could look to trade down in draft
    Thu, 10 Apr 2008 18:00:10 -0700

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets could look to trade down in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Jets currently hold the No. 6 overall pick in the draft. The team could look to trade down to between No. 7 and No. 15 overall. They have discussed a trade with at least one team in that range.

Haha..trade down to #7? With New England? I don't think so.

I hate these last few weeks before the draft. Not only is nothing happening, but the number of meaningless bable increases exponentially.

The draft can't get here soon enough.

Groundbreaking news.....In related stories, the Jets could look to trade up or stand pat.

Trading down would be smart. I don't think Gholston is going to be around and I don't think there's much worthy talent otherwise that's going to be available at six. The addition of an extra pick or so would allow us a luxury pick, like a wide receiver or a safety, that we might not normally have. New England has the seventh overall pick in a year where their draft pick was taken away, as a result of trading down. A surplus of guys is never a bad thing.

We're going to see a lot of this kind of speculation in the next two weeks. There's no obvious 6 pick in the draft that fits the Jet's needs unless something interesting happens above them.

I hope we don't panic and try to trade up. That would be a continuation of the process that has brought us down over the last half decade.

I agree, I hope we dont panic and try to trade up either. I'm actually a little worried about that, this is not the draft to trade up in. I do disagree with you about the talent fitting the Jets needs at 6 though, there are at least 4 guys worthy of the six pick that fill needs for the Jets, at least one of them is likely to be available.

The question becomes is the one that made it to 6 worth it to pick over trading down a couple spots and picking someone else while aquiring an extra pick or two?

Each draft is different in terms of movement moving up or down as teams look to improve themselves.According to the experts there are just a few can't miss guys. That is bad for the Jets being in 6th position(thinking back to that last KC game )The only way the Jets can get a good offer to drop down is McFadden. There may be some NFL teams that want him badly enough to pay us handsomely for the 6th spot. Yet imho I'm also not going to just give the spot away either. Tanny should use 9:50 minutes before pulling the trigger on drafting in this spot.Hopefully there may be a Mike Ditka willing to cough up most of his draft to get McFadden

And brought us Revis and Harris last year. Maybe you want to rethink that.

Here is how I see it...

If DMC is there, we will take him.

If he isn't there, the Jets will actively look to get out of the #6 pick.

Denver will be the trading partner in a draft day trade which would include Dewayne Robertson.

What could Denver possibly offer us that was worth doing a deal for if we are including Robertson? It would take more than just their first and second pick and they aren't going to do that. A Robertson deal with Denver would come much later in the draft.

what if DMC isn't there but Gholston or Long is? I'm taking either

I know i have little support for this, but if Long is at 4 or 5- i'm beating the Pats to him.. this kid is a HOF- in 4 years time, trading up to get him will be the genius move made by the FO, but will be hated on draft day. Its the only trade up i'm making if i'm MT. No one else is worth it.

Glad you aren't the GM. Actually, what you just said was so crazy it doesn't even deserve a reply. What you said means the #12 pick is worth more than the #6.

    Please draft....come soon.

Seriously...who told you people theres only 5 players worth picking in this draft?

    You're limiting your options for...what?

I think what they are saying is there are only 5 players who could help the Jets that are worthy of the #6 pick. However, after that there aren't a whole lot more that are even worth a first round pick. Certainly not all of the 24 others that will go in the first round.

Yea I know...I worded that poorly but it seems like people on TGG have limited us to the Longs, DMac, Gholston, or Ryan.

    Other guys I'd love/wouldn't mind at 6:

    McKlevin
    Harvey
    Mendenhall
    Albert
    DRC

And this is before we even know everything the teams know...theres guys that teams fall in love with and guys that rise suddenly and guys that drop like rocks...

What if we fell in love with Kentwan Balmer? Or Quentin Groves? Or Mike Jenkins? Or Otah? I mean how much info do we *really* have for people to pigeon hole us to 5 or 6 players?
