Now that Rhodes is signed, what our defense looks like for the next 3 years

I love this signing. We have the following defensive studs locked up for the next 3 years:

    Jenkins (2013), Pace (2014), Harris (2010), Revis (2012), Rhodes (2013?).

In addition, we have these players for a while (though we can always cut them if they don't perform):

    Coleman (2011), Ellis (2010), Thomas (2011)

Basically, we have Barton (2008, who's on the downside of his career), David Barrett (2009, same), Elam/E. Smith (2009, not seasoned) as starters who have expiring contracts in the next couple of years. We could have a dominating defense in the years to come, especially if we draft another defensive stud like C. Long or Gholston at #1.

Just out of curiosity, I did the same for our offense:

    Brick (2011), Faneca (2013), Mangold (2010), Moore (2010), Woody (2013)
    Coles (2009), Cotchery (2012), Jones (2010), Baker (2009), Richardson (2008), Pennington/Clemens (2011/2009)

It seems to me that this regime has done a really good job locking up the good players for a while. The only bad contracts are Thomas and Pennington and they have a decent chance of performing much better.

I like how this team is constructed.

There is no way Faneca nor Woody sees the last 2 years of their deals which is fine.

You have got to hand it to Tannenbaum and the FO.

    Good job.

Great!!! The best part is that we have at least 1 stud at each level of our defense. Jenkins, Harris and Rhodes/Revis (take ur pick...)

Can't help but think that the Jets are betting the farm there will be no salary cap two years from now. I can't see any other way they will be able to pay all these new contracts by then.

Whoo you are already classifying Jenkins/Pace as studs & you have not even seen him play for us yet? Maybe a bit premature huh?

I think people are overreacting to the cap situation. You have to remember a few things:

    1) Tannenbuam is a cap genius, he renegotiates all the time. Plus the only real outrageous contract was Pace. The others, including Rhodes, are not that bad.

    2) The Jets started out with alot of cap space this year.

    3) There might not be a cap in a few years. But even if there is one, it is going to increase every year.

    4) In two years, DRob, Pennington, and Coles contracts will all be off the books (in all likelihood).

I can agree with Woody, who's not been a top flight lineman reently, but why Faneca?

He's 31. Not exactly old for a lineman. Never had a Major injury. Even while his game starts to slip he'll still be above average. At the end of his deal he'll be about the age Kendall is now, the same pete kendall everyone was upset that we let go.

There is no good reason to speculate that he will not make the end of his deal.

I am high our team for the next couple years. We have a serious defense that is only getting better. And we fortified our O-line and just need to solidify the qb position and get a WR and its a good team. Here we come. ROLL TIDE!!!

Nothing like seeing Kerry Rhodes on the front page, aside from the reason why. Man, that dude is so fine. And to think after fanning me and feeding me grapes and chocolate he can still play football. Now that's a treat.

I forget what game it was at home last year, but he made this amazing one-handed INT that was definitely something to see. I'm really glad we made this one happen. After what's his face got signed with the Raiders, it made me nervous Rhodes' agent was gonna play some serious hard ball. C'mon, what's his face. Gibril Wilson, there ya go. I don't look anything up.

The Jets look good on paper, but will they be good when it matters? I am not ready to Mangini and Tannenbaum as the great saviors yet.

Defensively....The front 3 of the 3-4 defense has no young player at NT & that is where the Jets have to get that centerpiece. Jenkins is an older & often injured player. Otherwise Jets' have a centerpiece at LB with Harris & secondary at both levels CB & Safety with Revis & Rhodes. All building blocks. Jets' just need that building block at NT.

Offensively they need 2 young OL to add to the mix.

Kris Jenkins is 28 years old and hasn't missed a game in the past two seasons. Two strikes with one swing.

Cute, but my point is still completely vaild-- because I am right.

See post above me. Thanks for playing.

When you get older, perhaps the game will be easier to analyze and you'll understand where the rest of us are coming from. If you have any questions, i'm here to help.

I'm as hesitant as the next guy when considering Pace to be anything but a high-priced risk at this point, but Jenkins is an athletic marvel for his size, his football IQ is way up there and he has been considered an elite defensive tackle almost from his first season. My concerns about him are his ability to maintain a stable playing weight, because the heavier he gets, the more chance of injury, but I have no doubts about his ability at all. I have been a fan of his for quite a while.

This is a concern of mine as well, but when he can receive 3/4 of a Million Dollars to eat correctly and maintain a certain weight range, i have confidence in him to earn the money by not ballooning to 370+.
