We need more speed at outside linebacker. If the NYJs are planning to draft Gholston or one of the other speedy OLBs then letting Hobson (a dependable tackler when he could get there) makes more sense.

Having a fast and good hitting LB unit is a potential "one-up" on the Pats since their group is slow footed hard hitting and smart.

Hopefully we can get the hard hitting and intelligence to go along with the speed with younger more malleable LBs.

Honestly who cares. He was nothing more than depth here and very sporatic in terms of production. He is just going to be depth there also.

The fact is NEs LBs have gotten very old real fast. They are hurting for depth. They also took some steps back with all the DB defections. So since it took them what 5 weeks to settle on Hobson, it says more about their situation than it does how good Hobson may/may not be.

Plus who knows if he makes it on their roster. So like I said, how cares. Time too upgrade.

I meant in the last five years wiseguy.

Obviously nothing going on in the spring. Nice try at humor.

The thought of Belichik wasting any time on this guy has me thinking the Patsies are starting to slowly lose it, and yes I was a happy mofo when I realized that we'd no longer have him and that he'd landed the place where his presence would most help us, even if just in a small way.

BTW, one potential downside here, and I do not know the answer to this one: are Hobson and Kerry Rhodes close? Maybe Belichik signed him to be the salesman for the "come on over and get your ring" sale he's going to run on Rhodes after the season?

Really? Who did he remind you of when he took horrible angles to the ball carrier and when he got completely stopped by blockers because of his utter lack of a second move, and when he took an extra second to react to the snap? He was a decent player, but let's not kid ourselves here. He thinks he can be a starter.

i was surprised that hobson didnt sign a deal with a 4-3 team...he seemed more of a natual fit in the 4-3 and made more plays early in his jets career
i think he is a decent lb, but will never be anything more than average as a 3-4 lb
given the talent of new englands d-line and their knack for being ahead in games...i think it's likely that hobson could make a few plays for NE if given the chance next season, but at no point would i be kicking myself for the jets letting him walk

Hahaha, this is just classic stuff.

    http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/showthread.php?t=80740

The more I read it, the more I laugh. Lemme throw some nuggets out there:

"It's about freakin time. He was one the guys I wanted the Pats to get prior to the start of free agency. I think this is a very good move. The guy knows our system and can play any position on the line. He had a solid year playing in the 3-4 in 2006. I see him playing ILB for us primarily."

"we needed an ILB who can play coverage when asked.....this is that guy

we have ILB's who can play the run, their names are Bruschi, and Seau (cuz hes coming back )"

"This is what I thought! He's Tedy Bruschil without good hands! (not too many INTs). I wonder if this means they don't think Junior is going take his annual tour, or they do plan to sign Junior, use Bruschi and him in one spot & Hobson on the other."

I reference to Jets fan posts in this very thread
"Not suprisingly, he's all of the sudden too slow, too small, and too dumb to play in our defense at the ILB position."

"According to the Jets fans, he has played ILB in the past and looked much better there. However, they drafted Harris and the need at OLB was greater, so they moved him outside."

    Good stuff.

6 feet/ 252 is "way too small" to play inside?

He reminded me of Jonathon Vilma who was neutralized by the Jets miscast defensive line.

I'm not saying he was Mo Lewis, but it's difficult to objectively evaluate our linebackers with the bowling pins we had falling down along the line of scrimmage.
