Early word is Jeter's out for atleast the opener of the series, maybe more than just one. He missed 4 games with the same quad injury in 2001, but this one apparently isn't as bad, so the guess is 1-2 games. Hughes vs Bannister, Kennedy vs Greinke, Pettitte vs Bale the matchups. Setting us up with Wang, Mussina, Hughes for Fenway. 4:10 PM for the first game, Royals home opener.
It's weird to see a childhood friend playing pro. Ross Gload and i lived 2 houses away and played ball together just about everyday until the 7th grade. I'm glad he is finally getting to play everyday with the Royals. He is a really talented ballplayed but had some injury problems a few years ago.
Damon (LF) Cano (2B) Abreu (RF) Rodriguez (3B) Matsui (DH) Posada (C) Giambi (1B) Betemit (SS) Cabrera (CF)
Why the demotion for Giambi? Are they trying to get him less ABs to lessen the risk of aggravation of the groin?
They probably just don't want the lefties hitting back to back, especially since 1-3 are all lefty. And they're not going to move Matsui down.
Yeah, Matsui is on fire right now. I'm sure he has that 5th spot until somebody can take it away. Giambi's .078 BA isn't going to do it. We'll see if Cano comes out of it batting 2nd.
Haha. Nah. but i did knock out his front tooth playing Football in my yard. He has been with the Mets,Cubs,Rockies,On the White sox when they won a couple of years ago and the marlins.
Good point. Honestly, I missed the handedness when I read the list. Makes a lot of sense given: They've never done that. Could ARod do it? Probably without a hitch, but then you might get some backlash when you have Alex playing much better at SS than Jeter.
I'm not sure there'd be backlash... but I bet it'd give the media another stupid topic to feast on. I don't want them to do it, though, because of defensive reasons. A-Rod's been a third baseman and only a third baseman for four-plus seasons now. Probably more of a defensive liability to have A-Rod move to SS and put Ensberg or Betemit at third than to have A-Rod at his new natural position and Betemit at his. You're only forcing one person out of position that way. ETA: By the way, I love Hughes Day! [/man crush]
Derek Jeter will miss at least three games and possibly more with a strained left quadriceps, but the New York Yankees are not planning to put their eight-time All-Star shortstop on the DL. At least he wasn't hitting so the loss could be worse at a different time in the season.
