Greenscreen313, again this is a conclusion -- where's the evidence? How many football games did you watch this past season? I watched a lot, and it helps me to see them again. By the way, I would like to express my appreciation for these Video clips -- they were a lot of fun to watch.
Peyton Manning started all 16 games as a rookie. The Colts have not had another starting QB start even a single game since he was drafted in 1998. Nobody is suggesting that Clemens is in the same class prospect at this point as Manning and Aikman were. He's a much better prospect than Tom Brady was though. The next season or two will tell us whether he's an NFL QB or not. Assuming the Jets have solidified the line and the receivers can stay healthy that is. Both are reasonable propositions at this point. If he scrubs out this year it won't be because the left side of his line collapses under pressure eithout a TE over there to help them out.
If we do not spend a 1 (Ryan) or 2 (Flacco) on a QB THIS year, we're screwed. Clemens is more likely than not going to show the world his mediocrity, Penny, is done, and next years QB class sucks. The time to act is now, period. Clemens gets his year, but we got a rookie behind him learning the ropes.
The problems with these stats is that a lot of the games these QBs were in were losses. There has to be more to these losses than bad QB play. In fact, bad QB play is a symptom of these losses. Just because the camera focuses on where the ball is and goes doesn't mean it reveals what is happening.
A lot of jumping to conclusions -- we'll have to see how the open competition pans out. But, I also think that the NYJs should look to see what QBs are available after the first two rounds, AFTER we bolster our defense and OL...
Quote: "...IT TOTALLY BOGGLES MY MIND THAT ANYONE COULD STILL WANT PENNINGTON TO START. IT IS UNREAL...." Well, Johnnysd, you seem to be at random odds with the NYJ CS. Just why would you think that these football professionals that get paid to do what we like to talk about would disagree with you enough to keep Chad in the mix for an open competition...? You must think they are out of their minds.
Because they recognize that Clemens may not be the answer and they might prefer a broken down vet to him. That doesn't mean they think much of Chad at all it may just mean they think he is either better than Clemens or they want to draft another QB and sit him for a year. It really signals that they aren't confident in either QB if they aren't willing to say one or the other is the starter.
Fourthandlong, you are correct, in my opinion. There is no reason to judge Kellen on the basis of his scant body of work to date. This is especially true because of the abominable OL play in 07, and the fair to middling play in 06. I personally believe that Kellen is going to be a fine QB. He has discipline, patience (unlike the NYJ fans) and the persistence to take advantage of everything that comes his way. I like him and his future very much. But, to face the facts of the NYJ, virtually ANY QB would do well to excellently if the OL stopped breaking down on the line of scrimmage. The OL has to win the line of scrimmage -- for the RBs first and for the passing game next. Otherwise, it doesn't make a damn who the QB or RBs are. They will just get mashed because our lousy OL will let the destructors through.
Nobody who likes the NYJs is going to be happy with losing. But to shoot to kill without knowing what to do about the losing is a little over the top. It's possible that this "Message Board" is good for venting. I only hope that those guys who are this angry don't take it out on their families too.
If they do keep him they are out of their minds. To continue to do the same thing with the same negative result (No Sb after 6 seasons) with Chad is a sign of insanity. There are plenty of coaches who s**k! Go look at the Jets drafts over the last 20 years and you will see alot of professionals who did not do know what they are doing since we have been looking for a Qb for the team for last 40 years. Just because you have a job does not mean you know what you are doing. People baffle with BS every day!
I am most interested to see what happens this off-season. I am trying to keep an open mind so that I can enjoy it. My only interest is not in being proved right. I really want the NYJs to run the table. Having said that, I do not believe that Mangini and co. suck. I happen to think they are doing a great job. We'll have to see how the open competition works out. It may be that the draft will yield another entry in the contest. It would certainly benefit the NYJs if it does. I am still looking over the candidates and trying to learn who's impressing and who's not. The draft is going to be fun. I only hope Fourthandlong, you are not so angry and frothing at the mouth that you can't enjoy it too.
What is it exactly that you like about him? He doesn't have the size of today's NFL QB stars. He certainly doesn't have the accuracy. He doesn't have a quick release. Please enlighten us.
