I agree 100%...just one little change I would like to make...switch the QB names..!

I dont understand how 1:2 TD-Int ratio is better than 1:1...

Do you understand how 3-4 that should have been 4-3 as a starter is better than 1-8?

These 07 won-loss snapshots don't tell the whole truth about those games, in my opinion.

The defense was unable to withstand the three-and-outs of the OL and wore out a lot in 07. Before the bye they just weren't efficient enough to keep from burning themselves out reacting to "everything-under-the-sun" that the offense of their opponents were throwing at them. This is why the NYJ lost from a lot of come-from-behind efforts by opponents.

After the bye, the defense tactics changed from being so reactive to attaching from directions and fronts they hadn't earlier in the season.

Today's offenses gameplay heavily on this year's games so far, so any in-game change-ups force a lot of extemporaneous risk onto the offense. These offenses are so complex that if you haven't practiced it you may not execute that well. The NYJ defense had a bit of an edge from this in the second half of the season.

Of course Chad took the brunt of this phenomenon's downside in the first half, and Kellen got the benefit of the tactical changes in the second half.

Now, please, don't jump to conclusions -- I am not criticizing or praising the play of either QB here.

It's just that I really believe that not enough understanding or emphasis on the game's context is invested in these thumbs up / thumbs down judgments of whether the QB won or lost the game.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but how do you think the new rule with the radio to the signal caller on defense changes this situation? In Mangini's most recent interview on nyjets.com he said that the rule definitely changes many things. I think this can only hurt Chad's chances of being successful and remaining a Jet. If we think defenders know to jump routes on him already, imagine what they will do when a D coordinator is telling the signal caller how we're likely to take it. I wish Chad didn't have the misfortune he did, earlier on. Oh well.

Me too, and with his history his play isn't the only thing that will probably be hurt.

I think you will find when you look at the course of these games in 07, that the route jumping was the culmination of a successful defensive strategy --

First, they shut down the NYJ's putrid running game by smashing those sorry OLs in the mouth and throwing them out of the way.

Second, they pin their ears back, now that the NYJ's realize (after two and a half series) they can't run the ball on these guys, and start stunting their DL and LBs to rush the passer.

Third, after they get tired of bloodying the passer, the DBs are instructed to jump those short routes (Jonathan Josephs, an opponent's new rookie DB, describes this process in detail in one after-action article), gobble up the only passes the DL is giving the poor QB time to throw and take it to the house! Enjoy yourselves!

Yes, because as we all know, the only player that is responsible for the won-loss record of the team is the QB. Nevermind that the rest of the team sucked the whole year, but was significantly worse at the beginning of the year.

No QB was winning behind our OL. The only reason why we won so many games was because we played Miami twice who won 1 game all year; a horrible KC team whose offense was worse than ours; and a lucky-as-hell game against Pittsburgh, a game in which a great punt return by Leon won that game for us I might add.

You make it out as if Clemens was the only reason we won, and Pennington was the only reason we lost. That is the most retarded argument in the history or arguments.

This radio communication with a LB or Safety in a window similar to the QB's will be very interesting, in my opinion, and it will change a lot of things.

However, just as with the QB there is a finite window when the radio comm is open, and after the play is communicated the radio comm is shut off.

The well-expressed fear on here and elsewhere, about the coaches playing the team like a video game is not really well-founded, because the offense will change things at the line of scrimmage.

One of the innovations of the NYJs that will help this is the so-called "sugar huddle", where the team mills around the line of scrimmage and the QB looks at the defense and modifies the play accordingly.

I would like to add to your post...I agree every bit of it though...

The Pittsburgh game was won by the D alone. Our offense did all it could to lose. Kellen was not worth mentioning.

KC game was also won by the D. I dont feel like mentioning the Dolphins as we all know how many wins they racked up.

Still wanna compare the win/loss analysis?...We are talking about the QBs and how they performed under the horrific OL. I see no comparison. KC can only do two things - run the 2 min drill after sucking for 58 mins and throw a bullet that might end up in the opponents hand...useless...take that for a comparison...

Amen, Jets n Boys! The defense is to be commended in the second half after the bye. In spite of all the disadvantages that the offense put them in, they found a way to manifest.

Actually, when you think about it, the 07 season for the NYJ was extremely dramatic, interesting, and tragic. There were some really great efforts on that team last year, but all we talk about is who to blame.

    Irrelevant palaver.

Now your points about Kellen versus Chad -- each of them has a different disadvantage in the face of a non-existent OL, a disappearing running game, and WRs that cannot out run the coverage in time to get open before the QB is smashed.

Kellen is more confused because he doesn't recognize enough quickly enough. Chad has a slower delivery because of his VT-learned overhand passing.

Neither of them have a chance to get set particularly well set before they are smashed down. The INT that Kellen threw on the second play of the second Pats game that got him injured was a result of a rapid hit by Seymour, not Kellen's incompetence.

Chad got a high ankle sprain, as luck would have it, from one of those DL smashes early on in the season, and never got rid of it during the first eight games when he was starting. So he needed all the of legs he could bring to bear to get a throw off. Not very often that did occur, given the 1.8 seconds of time he was alloted by the stampeding DL.

Once Chad was able to get well, though, when he came in for example to take over for Kellen in the Pats' game, his passing execution was much more effective than it had been. It's just that he still was given little or no time; the few passes he did get off were crisp they were just few and far between the pass rush / sacks.

Neither QB was very well served by the 07 OL.

Better then throwing back breaking interceptions when the game is on the line.

So you would take a blow out loss than a last minute decider that can go EITHER way? Its not always your day. and its not always their day...CP kept us in games much longer and still showed he can produce OK numbers with such a bad offense. I just cant wait to see him behind all those new bodies and maybe even a new good WR from draft.

If CP sucks, i'l be the first to admit it here. but if he does'nt, all you 'Chad haters' should get ready to admit they were wrong. That simple...

Pennington got blown out as many times as Clemens did last season. Clemens was the starter for a majority of our wins. I'd rather play the QB that was in for wins then the QB that "kept us in games". Pennington is a horrible 4th quarter QB. He never leads game winning drives, so what good is staying in the game if you're ultimately going to lose in anyway?

We're not Chad haters by the way. You perceive it as hate because you don't agree with our opinions. Thats your issue. We just want what we think is best for the team, and for some of us that means finding a better QB.

Yes, because that's so much worse than putting your team in a 7-0 hole on your first pass attempt of the game against the best team in the league at the time.

Yea, it is actually. Being down 7-0 in the first quarter is way better then throwing an interception on an attempted game winning drive. Did you even bother to think about that before you posted it?

Again, it was against the Pats and they were unbeaten up until that point and would be up until the game against the Giants in the SB. You honestly think we didn't need those seven points against the best team? Or did you actually think we were going to score with 30 seconds left against the Bengals?

I have a lifesize Pennington cardboard cutout standing here in the corner of my office, so I'm no "Chad hater", but unfortunately I think injuries have done him in and his best days are behind him..... It would be nice to see him revert to 2002 (pre-shoulder injury) form, but I just don't see it. :shit:

Maybe if Clemens was in. :)

Where did I say we didn't need 7 points against the Patriots? Giving up 7 points in the first is one thing. It's never good and obviously factors into a loss. At least you have the whole rest of the game to try to make it up though. Throwing a pick with the game on the line is different. On top of it, it was the same damn pick we saw all season. You know, that throw that Pennington can't make. The one that makes a CB's eyes light up. The one they know is coming whenever the face the guy, it's just a matter of when?

Nobody fears Chad Pennington. If a guy is excited to play against your QB it's a problem. Not only because of your obviously sub par QB, but because it probably builds there confidence going into the game. I wonder how many CB's are kept up at night thinking "damn, this guy was good 6 years ago...I better be ready".

Actually, nobody fears the NYJs, to be precise. The OL was a joke, and the Defense had grave difficulty stopping the run all year.

The Defense just stomped out the line of scrimmage, stuffed the running game, and pass rushed the NYJs into defeat.

This was the pattern of the 07 season, game after game.

Correct. The Jets were a very bad team last season.
