The kid is frail at barely 200 lbs. He needs a few weeks training with Barry Bonds. Other than that, he has adequete NFL arm strength. Enough to make every throw unlike Pennington. He is mobile in the pocket, has a very quick release. The guy is a good leader. He even learned Samoan to communicate with his O-line to audible. That being said, he's second day material. His stock plumetted after the Sugar and All Star games. However, his combine was excellent. Colt was the only QB who was 100% on the accuracy, making every NFL throw. Martz loves this guy. I see SF picking him up in the 4th. Ironically, Colt compares best with Alex Smith. That being said, IMO San Diego State's Kevin O'Connell is the best QB value in this draft. In a marginal QB class with Matt Ryan being the highest rated QB, is a top pick and the money and time investment worth it? Hell no. This guy is 6'6 235 lbs, ran a 4.61 at the combine and was 2nd to Colt in the accuracy. His pro day, further impressed teams with his arm strength and accuracy. A project, since Chuck 3rd & Long was his college coach and he simply sucks. The guy can read defenses, click on youtube and watch the end of the Wyoming game. Checked down 3 WRs, scrambled and found his 4th read for the game winning TD. His stats aren't out of this world. His team was terrible. Outside of WRs Chaz Schilens and Brett Swain this team was god awful. So bad, O'Connell also led the Aztecs in rushing. This is especially sad since sacks are deducted from rushing totals in college ball. This guy had to run for his life pertty much every play. As far as his NFL comparisons picture a skinny Duante or a non-retarded Vince Young.
This guy is dead on..... if he even has a career in the NFL. This is not Hawaii Football...........enough said about Colt & his pop warner days
Who before him has been a good QB at Hawaii? I'd Love to take him with one of our 4th round picks. I just have a good feeling about him.
I have Nick Rolovich played in NFL Europe. He played a few years ago when he took over for injured Timmy Chang, who is rated by UH fans as the 4th best starting QB out of 4 starting QBs June Jones coached at UH. Also for Michael Carter who led UH to a Holiday Bowl win in the early 90s when UH ran the option. So he doesn't really count.
He got completely EXPOSED by Georgia. The only way he plays a down in the NFL is if the other 2 QB's on the roster get hurt in the same game...He has arena league written all over him.
My thinking exactly. Nobody thought Brady would amount to anything. I just hope Brennan doesn't end up being the next Brady. Especially if we have a shot at him and pass at some point. You just have to love the comments you read on this board. "He was a product of the system"..other total nonsense things like that. He had to produce in the system and he did it better that any college QB in history. You can't just discount that like it means nothing. The same morons would say Jerry Rice was garbage because he played for Mississippi Valley State and was a product of the system where all they ever did was pass. If ever there was a product of the system it was him. Weak conference, nothing team...all the same things they say about Brennan. The only difference was he was a WR and people are more willing to take a flyer on that position because it's not as important as a QB is.
Yeah, I noticed that, too. He looked weak on his throws at the combine compared to the others. I'd say he's a mid-rounder also, probably around fifth.
With his recent hip surgery, Brennan will be lucky to get drafted at all. I still think someone will take him in the 6th or 7th.
Colt is a guy I wouldn't mind taking a chance with in one of the last two rounds. I know he is small, and he played at Hawaii, but I think he could be a complete steal in the 6th or 7th. Who knows with a guy who was able to put up such huge number in college.
For the last time, at Hawaii with June Jones, in that system...any mediocre (Timmy Chang), can put up "huge" numbers. Ty Detmer also put up huge numbers in college. When I mention Detmer, most people don't even know who the hell he is.
So, then if some NFL team installs the June Jones system he will throw for 600 yards a game in the NFL too, right? You said it's all about the system, didn't you? I hope you realize how ridiculous that sounds. Teams adjust to "systems". Now, if you want to say he was as successful as he was because of the competition then that would at least be a valid argument.
In the NFL you just can?t run certain systems, because the D Players are bigger, faster, stronger and read better. There are some systems, where you can hide the weaknesses of your QB and let him play to his strenghts.
Then again, he could be the next Brady, but who knows with the way he throws. Wasn't Tom Brady about his size in College?
You can't compare these two. It's not fair to Tom Brady. Just because Brennan will get drafted late doesn't mean he compares to Tom Brady. Why don't you compare him to someone like Sage Rosenfels or Bruce Gradkowski? ...Tom Brady is 6'4. Colt Brennan is a little over 6'2, and he's frail. He weighed a little over 200 pounds. Brady WAS very skinny, but he had a good frame to add need bulk. Brennan doesn't. Tom Brady's NFL career is one giant fluke. He was actually very good at Michigan, where he backed up Brian Greise and beat out Drew Henson later in his career. At Michigan, Brady was a great student...and he played in a PRO-STYLE OFFENSE. Brady had all of the intangibles...but was labeled a good college player that won't work out in the pros, so he slid down draft boards. Tom Brady has come out of no where to become one of the best quarterbacks of all-time. Colt Brennan is a douche bag rapist. He plays in a pass-friendly, stat padding offensive system at Hawaii. He's undersized, and has horrible character. His throwing motion and arm strength aren't even close to what quarterbacks need in the NFL. Colt Brennan will go no where, and he doesn't deserve it.
Arena football league, based on his last performance in the Sugar Bowl I'd say he's got Arena league written all over him - perfect for the Hit men or the Dragons he might make either of those rosters.
