hey green dude. i followed the steps here and the computer is running faster thanks. now i know nothing about these things, i'm lucky i can even find the button to turn it on so i need help on this one thing. with the spybot search and destroy thing, i did that but now i keep getting these that say "spybot - search & destroy has detected an important registry entry that has been changed" then it has choices of "allow change" "?" "Info" and "deny change" i've been clicking allow change, but this is like the tenth time a message like this came up. should i just keep hitting allow change or am i doing something wrong?

You have spybot configured to do "live" security (Tea Timer), where it will ask you every time if it's okay with you to change a registry item. If you've done something that would do that (installing or uninstalling a program, for example) you should allow it, but the idea is that if you've done nothing and you get this message, it could be spyware or malware in the background. If you don't like the popups, you have to turn off Tea Timer.

ahh ok so if i get that pop up and i didnt do anything but come on the gang green and read up on stuff, then it's probably a spyware and i should not allow the change cool. now i got the aol spyware thing too, will having the 2 of them be ok? or is it like the the thing with the norton and the AVG?

I have never had AOL, so I'm not a good person to ask that, but I would think that spyware detectors would be less likely to interfere with each other than anti-virus programs would. Maybe green dude can weigh in on that.

For some reason Internet Explorer refuses to acknowledge that I have Flash Player installed - when I click on a link that needs it, it claims I don't have it, and asks me if I want to install it. I do the installation, the installation is confirmed, yet the videos still won't run. Anyone have any idea of a solution to this? I'm using IE 7.0.5730.11.

Anyone running Windows Vista, be sure to install SP1 which has just been recently released. I've been running it for a few days now and its a whole lot faster and smoother.

Is there any reason why my Vista laptop doesn't get the update for SP1? I don't want to dl directly because I'm afraid it would wreck something.

Did you install all recent updates from windows update? I believe if it finds a driver compatibility SP3 won't even show up on windows update.

Speaking of which I just downloaded Firefox 3 AND Open Office. Getting ready to purge my system of anything Microsoft other than XP.

With that said, what is the best freeware alternative to Windows Media Player that will play music, videos, and DVD?

So... How do I get IE off my computer? There is no uninstall option on the main add/remove programs page, and even after removing it from windows components, it's still there, and it still works! All that did was remove the link on my desktop.

hmm thats odd... i wonder if you have more than 1 version. That's the only way I know how to remove it.

And for your media player needs... check out Kazaalite codec pack. Has every codec you need and it uses media player classic.

Media Monkey is a great alternative to iTunes too if your looking for something like that.
