Man, that pitch was actually high too. He didn't even get his arms fully extended. The man is made of power. But we should have let him walk because there's no way he can do that in October, right?
Again, I get that. I don't expect you to see reason thirty minutes after a start from Moose that you don't like... but you've seen it in the past. I don't need to post the stats. You know them. I don't expect it to make you like him. I DO expect it to make you temper your opinion about what does or does not need to be done. And please, please, please tell me how an allegedly shitty outing (which wasn't THAT bad, realistically) is "not pitching when the game matters," when it's the SECOND GAME OF THE SEASON. I never said it was your own invention. I'm just saying that we could all use a dose of reality when watching games this season. It'd probably make it a lot less stressful, and a lot more enjoyable. (Not to mention... accurate, in terms of our analysis.)
You think his stats tell a story. I think he sucks. And no matter what his stats are, I'll never have a stress free viewing of a Yankee game he pitches in. Ever. BTW: Since you love to use stats to prove your point, why'd you ignore the factoid jonnyd pointed out? Moose's ERA last year was 5.15 Not exactly Cy Young worthy. For every "good" start he has, he has a dismal one to make up for it. His ERA tonight? 4.76 I wouldn't say his start tonight "wasn't THAT bad, realistically". Realistically, his start tonight WAS bad. Pretty bad, actually. Hell, had Damon not stolen a homer his ERA would be even higher.
Bzzt. Try again. I don't his "stats tell a story" as though it's the end-all/be-all. I just think it's a more reasonable yardstick by which to judge a person. That has less to do with Moose and more to do with you. Whoa whoa whoa. Did I say he was good for all of last year? He wasn't. He wasn't ALL bad, either, though. (His inflated ERA was MOSTLY due to two horrendous - but isolated - stretches... which indicates that it's not that Moose is a bad pitcher, overall... just that something was wrong.) This is NOT to say that I think Moose is awesome. Please don't infer that. It's just that some people have inaccurate opinions of just how bad he is. Sigh. Yes, it was bad, in the end. What I said before was that it wasn't as bad as his line. Please try to understand the difference. And had Giambi not botched a grounder, it'd be even lower. I watched the game, and I saw how he was pitching. It wasn't pretty... but it wasn't as bad as some are trying to make it out to be. For the love of god, comprehend the difference between saying "it's not as bad as people are saying" and "it's awesome." Honestly. Where did I say I was "looking forward" to seeing Hawkins pitch? Could you point that out to me? Yankee goggles? What? Please, dude. Give it up. I'm the most unbiased person on here, if only because I don't trust my gut instincts at any and all costs. If I have an inclination, I look at it and try to objectively analyze it. Whatever. Fuck all y'all.
fuck all y'all? hahahah. ok enough of the cappy comedy hour. lets watch a-rod tie this fuckin game right now.
Wow Cappy. I'm really trying to not argue with you, but you're so ridiculously wrong at this point it's comical. Care to look up his postseason ERAs the past couple years? BTW: For a guy so obsessive regarding stats, you might want to look up how ERA is calculated. Actually, I'll save you the trouble. Giambi's error did not contribute to Mike Mussina's earned run average. So actually, Moose got himself a freebie for being out of position on the play.
Shit, that sucks. The offense needs to get started earlier in the game. We had this same issue early in the year last year.
Cappy, don't try to use logic in the heat of a game thread. Your head is going to explode and I'm not cleaning up the mess.
