Mine was 45 too. I only found out afterward that's unusual. The good news is we're killing the Marlins pen for tomorrow. So that's something.
If we didn't sign Pedro to that contract, we never get Beltran or anyone else. The Pedro signing announced to the league that we were here to contend; it held far more significance than just that 1 good season.
that was an unbelievably bad pitch. he got away with one 70 mph floater so i guess he figured he'd throw the exact same pitch again.
I am listening on radio and missed Wise's name, don't worry it won't be long until that isn't a mistake, but Wise is filling Mota's role pretty nicely for "guys that suck but Willie will bring them in anyway."
Well, if you would have rather let someone else overpay, it's very possible we wouldn't have made the playoffs the last two years. And Pedro's contract didn't hurt us in terms of signing new guys. So we're calling Wise the new Mota? I like the Schoenweis comparison because they were both new, crappy signings. Mota had all the steroid crap going on; I think that was different. We have too many crappy relievers...
Give Keith credit - after the first pitch he said that Wise can't get away with that pitch too often, so when he threw it again it was hardly a surprise that it was crushed. It probably says in today's paper that he said "I got it higher than I wanted." Relief pitchers whose out pitch is a changeup make me ill.
I guess it depends more on whether or not the change is good. Gagne's out pitch was a changeup when he was unhittable for 2 straight years. I haven't seen Heilman throw back to back meatballs like that too many times either.
