I'm guessing the guy playing with 21 HOFer's is going to look damn good. Ask Terry Bradshaw how much that helped him out. Not that I think he's a bad QB, but it doesn't hurt to have a kickass D, O-line, running game, and WRs.
Well, guys, none of this team building will happen in a season. You just don't get enough resources to do that. Even with all the money we spend in FA, and the seven draft picks, it's not enough to make a single-season wonder. But the first thing you fix on a team, it seems to me, is what is the most wrong. First the most wrong on the NYj is the OL, second, the most wrong on the NYJ is pass rushing and stopping the run. I believe we've got B- to C+ QB talent right now, and maybe B to B+ RB talent. With Ds and Fs on the OL and Cs and Ds on the pass rush -- we need to fix what ails the NYJ first. Once we get the OL and the DL / LB right, then we can upgrade the ballet dancers. But if you drop your drawers and go for the gusto with skill players, your half-assed OL and measly pass rush and non-run stopping wil put your ballet dancers in the hospital. Not a good way to run the ranch, guys. There's altogether too much hollering and gnashing of teeth over the QBs. Spend your energy where it'll do you some good.
It put him in the HOF, too............ so wait, if Mangini become the next Chuck Noll, Pace is Mean Joe Green, Cotch is Lynn Swann, Coles is Stallworth, and TJ is Franco Harris... Pennington will go to the HOF too? Being an ass is fun sometimes
Now, I never said anything about being one-dimensional. I think that that BS offensive strategy is just fine, and you can't say it is one-dimensional, unless you bring back that 07 OL sieve, and it's not even one-dimensional, it's no-dimensional. You run then you can throw, and after that, they don't know what in the hell you're doing. ...that's the point. Big bad OL makes it all possible.
Our guys don't have to *become* anyone, they have to be themselves to improve themselves. And I'd say that Chad would look pretty damn good if that did happened.
I don't know -- the NYG seemed to rise up against all those bad boys pretty well. And they had a helluva running game and once in a while they passed, and afterwards, they ran, and what's next? Yeah, they won. It all starts with a damned good OL. Then the damned good DL helps too.
Do you seriously think that soaring jump ball that Tyree got to with his helmet was the result of a bullet arm? Ask the players what they saw on the field. Also, a lot of people describe Eli Manning's post-season play as the consistent elimination of mistakes, not "Great QB Play". I think Eli let the game come to him, for a change, I don't think he worked any freaking miracles.
Then you should start opening your eyes and realizing that QBs are actually wizards whose magic is intangible...
I don't know DWare, what can I possibly say to that...? Guess they haven't outlawed wands yet? The NFLPA won't let them touch the hair, not even put it up in a 'french twist' under the helmet. What would they say about wands?
Who said anything about the ball to Tyree? I sure didn't, but since you bring it up, Eli made a hell of a play just to be able to get the pass off. He played very well down the stretch and in the playoffs. Good enough to help his team win a SB and good enough to win MVP honors. 2 things that Chad Pennington will likely never experience in his career.
If it's true what you say that Chad will likely never experience this in his career, it is a lot more because of the offense than what Chad does. You have to look at Eli's body of work this past year -- his team hung together in spite of a terrible QB rating (well deserved) that rivaled Kellen's for impoverishment. The running game kept them in it along with a crippled WR who would not quit on Eli. I think anybody who watched the NYG this year was flabbergasted that they went through the playoffs and still can't believe they won the SB. The offense made him do it.
Well, I get the impression that the Offensive Coordinator has a lot to do with it. But as I see from watching the game, once those guys get on the field, it's up to them and their performance to set the scene. I would say that the OL is the first group that has to do their jobs -- otherwise the QB is barely an extra as he fights vainly for his life.
So the phrase "Signal Caller" means nothing to you? I'm having trouble understanding your dismissal of the importance of an elite QB. Not for this team, just in general sense of the sport.
At the end of the day they won because Eli made a play with his legs and arm when he completed the pass to Tyree and then he finished it off with his arm when he hit plax for the winning score and took the team down the field with under 3 minutes to go. At some point the Qb will have to make a play and Eli was a perfect example of what i have been saying. Has Chad ever marched the legnth of the field with under 2 min for a score in six years? That was the point when Eli had to throw and he did it. What happens if we put Chad in that situation? He will have to do it at least once on the race to the Sb.
A lot of people refer to that old adage that the QB gets too much credit when things go well and too much blame when they don't.
