Well, this seals it. Pennington won't be coming back, now that he's landed in some legal trouble. We all thought Pennington was a "Mangini guy", but now we've all been proven wrong. From thejetsblog.com: "A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer had just the opposite reaction when Pennington handed him his fishing license during a routine check … Pennington mistakenly thought the Florida fishing license he had purchased included both salt- and freshwater, but it allowed saltwater privileges only. Officer Garret Fields let Pennington escape with only a warning ticket."
LOL The guy just sinks deeper and deeper. Wouldn't surprise me to hear that he's posted up on some corner trynna sell crack to kids in a couple years.
What sinks deeper and deeper is this thread. I'm amazed it still has any legs at all. You always know when it is the off season.
Wow...amazing innit? He really beat the crap out of that officer did'nt he? Do you really think Mangini is going to kick him out the team just cuz he did'nt have the "PROPER" fishing lic.? Oh please! If you do, then you need to see a doctor... Trying to find anything against him. If he did'nt have a fishin lic at all, then it would have been a different story. The fact that even the cop let him off speaks for itself. Find a different reason that would actually hold any value and then post it here...please...
Thought I read something from Sporting News that said that the $ Penny is due is all salary, so the Jets can pull what Jax did last yr when they cut Leftwich right before season started and pick up the $6mn in cap room. I think they'll wait it out -- yes, unless someone offers a 3rd pick in the next 5 wks. They'll see if Clemens can do anything and see what's available. If somehow Flacco or Brohm are available in 2nd round, then I think the Jets pull the trigger; cut Tui, trade or cut Clemens or hang on to Clemens and try and dump Penny and maybe sign a Harrington, Carr or another 'vet' backup
You'd like to think that Mangini and Tannenbaum are at least as honorable as Chad Pennington is with this contract situation. They've exhibited a learning curve about discontented players in the locker room. If you think LC would have been a splinter as an unhappy camper in that locker room this year, what do you think Chad Pennington would be? If LC is a leader on the field, then CP is the leader off and on the field -- as evidenced by his attitude and effort before and after the benching last year. It never changed one iota. If Kellen beats out Chad in a fair competition this off season, so be it. That's fair and square. If Chad beats out Kellen, so be it. However, for Kellen it's only a matter of time and Chad knows this. Chad also knows that if he is seen to be bested by Kellen this off-season by the NYJ then his stock plummets in the NFL "what-have-you-done-for-me-lately" meat market. I take Chad Pennington at his word: He sincerely believes he deserves to be starting QB on a team in the NFL. He has been told by the NYJ that he and Kellen will compete for the starting QB position in the offseason. So, he went down to Bradenton, FL and started working on his own to prepare for this competition to win. And without a word, he showed up at the voluntary workout this past week to commence his with-the-team effort to win this competition. Why? Well, first of all, it has nothing to do with Kellen, Chad's decision. I think that Chad figures that there is nobody alive and vying for a QB spot in the NFL that can take better advantage of the BS offensive strategy than Chad Pennington can right now. Furthermore, if the NYJ OL is rebuilt successfully, Chad believes he will be able to add more value to its success than any other QB. Chad also knows that he does not have nearly the advantages of familiarity with the offense, rapport with his team mates, and knowledge of the coaching staff's needs and concerns with ANY OTHER team in the NFL -- as he does with the NYJ. So...... if it is true that Chad sincerely believes that he can and should be a starting QB in the NFL, the best place for him to prove it is with the NYJ. If he can't in this full and fair competition this off-season, well, then, it will just be time for Plan B, and ole Chad will go out and try to win another starting spot the hard way -- on the merits. In case you haven't noticed, this guy is one class act. It's not about his vocabulary, it's all about his behavior.
If Chad loses the starting job, I believe we will see him renegotiate then. I thought it would happen before, until it was stated that it would have no affect on the cap. Honor will be damned in this game most likely, regardless of high character. The dollar will come first. And if he isn't starting I don't disagree with a pay check hit. He'll stay on as a backup, take the high road, and request to be freed at years end to pursue other starting jobs. If he loses the starting job. I'm not convinced he will.
Hey, Jetzz, I've been looking at your signature, and I disagree. We, as fans, are extraordinarily limited in what we can know about the players, the coaches, and the team before they actually play. We, as fans, are very hamstrung by what the producers and director choose to show us of the actual game. Those of us who have experienced the player's POV then seek for more info at every turn. Those of us who know there's more to it than what CBS or Fox or ESPN chooses to give us, well we get crazy...
You disagree with my signature??? Get out!! That was Champ's nonsense... not mine. I just carry it as a badge of irony. I would agree with you on that though. Too much we just don't know to really know.
I just dont get this nonsense. People say this over and over; "the furthest Chad can lead us is to the 1st round of the playoffs." Did you realize that the jets have 53 different players on their active roster? It is not made up of 53 Chad penningtons. Teams are responsible for wins and losses, its not all on the qb. So if you go by last years records and judging it all on the qb; I guess Carson Palmer blows, and vince young (maybe the worst qb in the nfl) is one of the elite qb's. Maybe we will never be able to do any better than a 1 and done in the playoffs with Brandon Moore at guard, or d rob at defensive tackle, or bryan thomas at linebacker, or Brad smith as wr. I just dont get this nonsense that the entire outcome of games is all on the qb.
not in the least bit. pennington wasnt even on the team last yr as far as im concerned. anyone who thinks pennington has a real future in the nfl is crazy. he'll be a decent backup for some team from here on out. but the jets would be fucking braindead to pay this guy 7 M this yr. if the previously mentioned hit is accurate.
But Chad is better than Kellen and more importantly gives the Jets the best chance to win, especially this year with the spending spree in FA. So, they will pay him and all you Chad bashers will be eating out of my hands. If you don't buy into this, honestly tell me that if Chad was traded to whatever team that team would beat the Jets if they played. So this pretty much dispells the "he is only a backup" philosophy.
No one on here is ever going to "eat out of your hands". You make no sense what so ever.
If the CS agreed with you, then they wouldn't be having this competition. Obviously, you think that the CS is full of it. What else do you think is wrong with the CS? Why don't they agree with you? I think the best thing for this team is two QBs that can run the BS offensive extremely well. This competition is the best thing for the team, in my opinion.
IF PENNINGTON IS NOT ON THE JETS IN SEPTEMBER, THE JETS WILL BE OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS BY OCTOBER. You all have a short memory and even shorter loyalty.
