Draft: Round 1. Vernon Gholston LB A strong LineBacker that delivers as a strong reckless player. And can turn the franchise into a Defensive Built team. He will be a strong competitor, and an important cog on this Jets team. Round 2. James Hardy WR Hardy’s size (6’5”) and reasonable combine 40 (4.51) make him worthy of a high pick. He was incredibly productive for the Hoosiers with 26 touchdowns over 33 games and will catch some passes immediately. Jets trade D-RoB,A 4th Round Pick and next years 3rd round pick to Detroit for a 2nd round pick.. Round 2. Brandon Flowers. CB This guy's stock has fallen but he still has a lot of potential. he also averaged 17.2 yards per pic. Round 4. Ray Rice. RB This guy is a small gritty running back that with my exp. watching him, he will become a good rb in the nfl, he ran good at the combine but also hurt his hammy. Round 6. Colt Brennen. QB Maybe he'll be a Brady type player that got forgotten about Round 7 Jonny Dingle DE/OLB West Va. So what do you think...... we have a pick next year with vilma so it could be a 3rd next year
NM..as usual I read it too quick. Too the point however. I think they will take a QB before the 6th. I think Ray Rice won't be taken by the Jets at all. The only back this year they would take is McFadden. If they can't get him then they really don't need one anyway. I think the trade is way too steep for the Jets considering Detroit can actually use Robertson. Other than that it seems reasonable. *sigh*..it haunts me how much winning that totally meaningless against the Chiefs is killing us right now. Can you imagine how pretty we would be sitting with the #3 pick in each round right now? That should be held more against Mangini then anything else he has done here.
My gut is that Gholston will go either 2nd to St. Louis or 4th to Oakland. But it could happen. I also think James Hardy will be gone. That's a shitty trade. I definately do not want to give up a 3rd next year. Dewayne probably has no value anymore as we've seen especially with his concerns with his knees... Flowers would be good. Ray Rice might not be around in the 4th... We don't have a 5th round pick and Tyrell Johnson could go in the 2nd round. He's a sleeper and is moving up draft boards. Brennan is worth a flyer on for sure, but I don't think he'll pan out. I don't Johnny Dingle projects well to OLB. There are other guys...
my issue really is with the trade, we should be able to trade a 3rd and 4th for a second anyways, why are we tossing in D-rob for free? he is worth more to us than free... of course at least this would get him into the NFC as opposed to cutting him, then he could go anywhere... Also I am not a fan of flowers... would much prefer a LB there like a Cliff Avril/Jerod Mayo/Curtis Lofton...
better? i ment a 4th it was a typo, tyrell coud be available/ lofton was my next choice but we gave barton/hobson/thomas, i know we are getting rid of 1 of them but we need a good 2cb and flowers could be the man
We have no 5th rounder and we have the Vikings' 7th rounder, the 17th pick (208th overall). These are our 2008 picks: Round 1, Pick 6 (6th Overall) Round 2, Pick 6 (37th Overall) Round 4, Pick 6 (101st Overall) Round 4, Pick 10 (105th Overall) Round 6, Pick 6 (165th Overall) Round 7, Pick 6 (197th Overall) Round 7, Pick 17 (208th Overall) A 3rd next year is worth a 4th this year, so we are essentially trading two 4ths (lets call them both the 6th in the round for your sake, 92 points on the draft value chart) and Robertson for the Lions' second rounder (#15, 46th Overall, 430 points on the draft value chart), which makes Dewayne Robertson worth 246 points or the 5th pick in the 3rd round (245 points). Yeah, let's just say that that most likely won't be happening.
You have that backwards. A 3rd this year is worth a 4th next year. You always assume the team trading a future pick could win the SB. Then again, maybe we are saying the same thing only differently.
You're comparing Colt Brennan to Tony Romo? Are you kidding? Tony Romo was "forgotten about" on purpose. He was a small school quarterback, with even smaller hype...but he isn't frail, and he didn't play in a SYSTEM that can pad anyone decent QB's passing stats. He should've been hyped up like Joe Flacco is this year. Romo was a 3 time I-AA All-American, and he put up huge numbers at Eastern Illinois. Colt Brennan is a product of the system. I've watching him play in person and I've seen him play A LOT on TV. He has a horrible attitude, and teams can't hold themselves together is their quarterback is losing it because of a 3 and out. Brennan, and Hawaii were way overhyped before the UGA game. I'm a mid-major fan, and I know that Brennan doesn't play against any type of top talent in the WAC. Boise State and Fresno State are the exception SOMETIMES, but WAC defenses are no where near as talented as SEC defenses...or NFL defenses. He's short, he's too skinny, and he's throwing motion isn't going to work in the NFL. Screens and slants don't work on EVERY play in the NFL either. Colt Brennan has all the ability in the world to be a star...in the Arena league.
Yes, future picks are worth less. Next year's first is worth a second, which is why you rarely see high future picks (future 1sts and 2nds) being traded unless you're stupid like, say, the Browns. Otherwise, a teams would always trade for future picks to gain value, which makes no sense whatsoever. I just misworded it, good catch Don.
Oh so we do have the Vikings 7th round pick... That's from Brooks Bollinger's trade than. Are you certain we do?

Otherwise, a teams would always trade for future picks to gain value, which makes no sense whatsoever. Therefore, a third this year is worth a second next year, a second this year is worth a first next year, etc. Yes. The trade was C.J. Mosley and a conditional 2008 pick for Brooks Bollinger. The trade was made in 2006, by the way. We can assume both that we would have gotten nothing if Bollinger were no longer on the Minnesota roster and more if he were their current starter, but the current situation is that we get their 7th round pick.
I am still glad we won that game. A win is a win. Although the game was VERY UGLY and all it did was hurt us in the draft. You play to win the game! Did I just say that?
The guy who DID say that played it to lose like we should have. Besides it's just rhetoric. Nobody showed up. Nobody cared then and nobody cares now. Maybe the only people here who care are those who are trying to make a case for Clemens over Pennington because they would have you believe that should count for a win for him. In the end however it may cost us a chance of getting a player that can help the team for the next 10 years. That was all it did. The Jets did the same exact thing in '05 and because of it we now have Ferguson instead of Young or Bush or whoever. (Not that that makes me cry, it doesn't)
ok i say this with the drob trade #1 RB Darren McFadden #2 DE Dre Moore #2 OLB Curtis Lofton dont know much about later picks
Round 4. Ray Rice. RB This guy is a small gritty running back that with my exp. watching him, he will become a good rb in the nfl, he ran good at the combine but also hurt his hammy. Obviously your not looking at the Jets roster we already have a couple of small running back and do not need Ray Rice.
