I'd love to grab one of these guys in the 2nd round to plug on the inside next to Harris for the next 8 years. If both are available who's the higher rated prospect and better fit for our system?

I think Lofton Projects better into the 3-4 as an ilb than Mayo. Mayo seems to be a 4-3 olb that i dont think would fit into a 3-4 very well

Lofton looks like a Harris clone, but i don't know if he will be as good. If he is, imagine having those monsters clogging running lanes and the Jets being able to blitz from the interior? Wow.

I like Lofton a little more than Mayo, but Mayo has the better size to play ILB in the 3-4. Tough call but I think I would take Lofton because of his upside.

I truly think Jonathan Goff will be a better 3-4 ILB than both of them tho.

Lofton is listed at 246 and Mayo is listed at 242...

Anyway, I'd rather take a defensive linemen in the second.

2 inches taller. plus his combine numbers reminded me of what Harris did.

Has to be Curtis Lofton. He's a big run-stopping type that would pair very well with David Harris.

I also like Jonathan Goff and I think he goes to the Pats at the end of the 2nd or top of the 3rd.

Here's a sleeper at ILB for the 3-4: Jameel McClain, ILB, Syracuse. I'd love to grab him with one of our 4th rounders.

How does being 2 inches taller make him a better fit for the 3-4?

Harris essentially had the same scouting report coming out that Lofton does this year. I'd love Lofton in the 2nd. Mayo's good too, But I'm more partial to Lofton. I grab him if we can't grab one a WR like James Hardy or secondary help (if we didn't already address that in the first) like Antoine Cason.

Erin Henderson out of Maryland could be a solid 3-4 ILB also. If he falls to the second day, and we haven't picked an inside linebacker, he'd be a nice selection.

^Definitely, he'd be tremendous value with one of our 4ths.

That would be quite a fall for him. I don't think he makes it down that far. IMO, he's a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

I know. His durabilty issues could effect his draft position though.

    QFT.

Between Lofton and Mayo, I like Mayo's ability to compliment Harris while still being a badass inside.

Plus, both of them are stout LBers, but Mayo is the better athlete. He basically has Harris' size and had a slightly better workout. Both Harris and Mayo blow Lofton out of the water athletically.

I love Lofton as a player, but I worry that he is too short (and therefore short-armed) to fend off guards. Anyone else with me on that?

Who's the best cover LB out of these LB's?
I haven't really been paying attention to LB's; mostly our positions of greatest need

It doesn't really matter who the best cover linebacker is...that's much more important in a Tampa 2, or really any 4-3.

These guys we're talking about are 3-4 ILBs, and their ability to shed blocks and stop the run is much more important than coverage. David Harris' big knock was that he lacked athleticism, but he dominated in the 3-4. You don't have to be the most athletic player to perform well at linebacker in the 3-4. That's why I like Curtis Lofton the most.

I also like Jonathan Goff out of Vandy, he'll be there in round 4 and was real bright in he interviews I heard w/ him. Henderson will be gone but could be a possibilty if we trade down and pick up a #3.
