If the Jets are to really turn it around with one good offseason? Then it will be by Pennington!!! With this line he'll be able to be Pennington again, I don't care who you put at QB last year, they'd of flopped to, even Manning or Brady.

He is a proven winner. Last year was he only losing season. When he has a line, and a running game he is very good. If he gets his play action working he can take us where we need to go.

Only problem for Chad is that most Jets fans hate him. And by most I would say a 60% to 40% ratio. The 60% speak more though. haha.

Going 1-8 will do that to you. Especially when we all thought a 9+ win season was easily available last year. Also, when you throw away 2 games on out routes for pick 6's... people never want to see you play for their team again.

I was so proud of him when he won Comeback Player of the Year... now he's a backup at best.

Another thread trying to once again jump the gun.

The CS have to make this call.

They will probably wait until the competition has had a chance to give all the QBs a chance to show just what they can do.

That is, show it to the CS, not US.

We won't know what any one of them does except through heresay.

But go ahead, and argue, why don't you...?

chad is light years ahead of clemens. given a support cast that allows a qb to play qb (ol, rb, te, receivers) chad would destroy clemens.

both qb's will play better this season with our new ol, te, plus maybe a receiver, but chad will paly SIGNIFACNTLY better than clemens.

with an OL that provides time to pick apart a defense, a true smash mouth running game that gains yards AND sets of the play action pass, two good pass catching tight ends, stuckey coming back, and possibly a tall kid to run the middle, chad will play better than he as ever played.

and with our improved defense, the game wont be riding on the qb to make big plays to win every game. heck, we may even be ahead a few times and just run the ball.

plus if we draft a qb, there's no one better to learn from than chad.

If I hear this garbage again, I'm going to snap...

Whenever this topic comes up (far too often) you act like it shouldn't even be a debate, because the Jets coaching staff (the same staff that had their heads all the way up their asses from the time we lost to NE in the playoffs their rookie year, through the final game of 2007) has said that there is going to be a competition....

#1) This is a discussion forum. The point is to discuss and debate about the team. If everyone just said, "Oh, well the CS knows what they're doing- it must be the right thing" there'd be nothing to talk about...

#2) What on EARTH has compelled you to believe that what the CS decides to do is unquestionably the right thing to do? Even the best of coaching staffs make poor decisions as far as personnel management goes here and there... Ours makes them time and time again....

    and

#3) Why do you take early speculation by Mike Tannenbaum that there will be a QB competition in camp as an absolute truth? Pennington has publicly said he wants to be a starter. This CS drafted Clemens. These factors should be enough to make one stop and think that maybe, just maybe, the CS isn't going to let them duke it out in camp and risk either having the disgruntled wanna-be starter-veteran QB riding the pine, or the young 2nd round QB drafted by this CS making no progress....

    Your logic is non-existent.

I agree, this debate can go in circles for hours, and it's frustrating, but saying "The CS will decide in training camp, so stop talking about it" is just plain silly...

Agreed 100%. In Chad we Trust with this new offensive line. I like the Chatman, Franks and Richardson signing, all of these moves and the 300 lb uglies we bought will allow Chad the time to work his play action magic. Chad can make all the throws when he has time and he's not trying to go 90 yds in 1:31 with no timeouts.

I get it, he is not the guy who will beat you by himself, but you put a good cast of lineman, rbs and receivers around him and he can be damn near perfect. Do you all remember that GB game two years ago when Sowell ran out in the 10 degree weather without his shirt...Chad can be that good every game with time.

I would like to see a WR taken in rd 2....that would make him even better.

Most of the guys on this forum take what happened in 07 as the basis for their judgment of QBs.

A lot of the opinions expressed wondered openly why Chad got the call last year when it was "so obvious" that Kellen played better in pre-season than Chad.

I think that jumping to conclusions on distorted information that is also incomplete makes for a lot of frustration, anger, and fruitlessness.

And jumping to conclusions about players whose future comes from the CS and FO decision-making process, without taking that majority opinion into account, can also generate a lot of pointless gnashing of teeth.

Notice that I continue to put in my two cents, just like everybody else.

Just because I continue to bring up stuff and refrain from losing my temper, doesn't mean I want to give up thinking about football and the NYJ.

But I do believe that thinking has to take into account realities, not just wishful thinking.

Like I said in that Brohm thread, if we take a QB in the second round then Clemens is gone. All of this can stop and we can start arguing about whether Pennington or X should start.

It can't be Chad, because he can't make all the throws... thats the reason he wasn't playing last year. Now, he's a real nice guy, and probably has more football smarts then everyone on the board here combined... but this is a physical game, and you need to have certain physical skills to play QB in this league... like the ability to throw the 10 yard out on a line... he can't... therefore, it can NOT be Chad. He's exactly what he will be for the rest of his career... a back-up.

He'll make a good caoch someday, I'm sure.
