worst nightmare in javon Walker. A Closer Look at Javon Walker by Sonny Jacobs (Scribe) March 17, 2008 When it became apparent Denver would release Javon Walker and he would become a free agent, Michael Smith of ESPN.com reported "At least 10 teams were in contact with Javon Walkers agent when he was released by the Denver Broncos including all four NFC East clubs, according to a source." I have read the 49ers, Bills, Panthers, and Vikings also reached out to Walker's agent Kennard McGuire regarding Walker. And that does not include the Oakland Raiders who ended up signing Walker. By my count, that is almost half of the teams in the NFL that had showed interest in signing Walker. From reading and listening to many articles and reports regarding Walker by most of the media, Walker is a washed up player with a gimp knee. Why would all these teams in the NFL jump to sign, and I am paraphrasing, "an injured flash in the pan wide receiver with no better then Jerry Porter talent?" One reason pointed out by the Pittsburgh Gazette's Gerry Dolac reffered to when Pittsburgh assigned its best CB Ike Taylor to cover Walker during a game. Walker caught six passes for 134 yards including two 10-yard fades for touchdowns against Taylor. And that does not include Javon Walker's 72-yard touchdown run on a reverse. This same Steelers CB had covered Randy Moss, Chris Chambers, and Chad Johnson earlier in the season and did not allow a touchdown by any of the receivers. A quote by Ike Taylor after the game, "Mama said there would be days like this." When Bill Belichick was asked at a press conference on Sept. 20, 2006, how close the Pats were from receiving a visit from Javon Walker Belichick laughed, "How close? About four plan reservations. He was close to being on the plane to coming here but never made it." Javon Walker is a big, strong receiver with speed. He is strong enough to get off the line and has the speed to stretch the field. Javon Walker is a No. 1 receiver and a go-to guy who can run all the routes. Walker goes after the ball in the air and has freakish athletic talent. Walker is a vertical playmaker who excels with double moves and deep routes off the play action. Javon Walker is an elite wide receiver and that is why so many teams tried to sign him. The Oakland Raiders have not had a true No. 1 wide receiver for a while, and it was a need. With a QB like JaMarcus Russell, you have to surround him with players he can get the ball to. Reports are that Walker is fully healthy and has been working out in Arizona getting ready for his first season in the silver and black. And one thing is almost guaranteed, Walker will at least have two killer games a year when the Raiders play Denver.
Notice the references were to games he had before the injury and watching his friend die in his arms.
This "article" comes from the website bleacherreport.com, the mission of which states "You won't find 'unbiased' coverage at Bleacher Report—and that's the point." The bio of the "journalist" Sonny Jacobs is "Long time Oakland Raider Fan." In other words, this is exactly the same as quoting one of the posters here as "journalism."
I've never trusted a person named "Sonny," and never will! P.S. - I'd pay $27.12 to take a peak at the assortment that sits upon Raiderjeaux's bookshelf.
That doesn't even count the lunacy of calling Shanahan "Shanarat," somehow implying that it was Shanahan's fault that Al Davis fired him 4 games into his second season coaching the Raiders. The blind obedience to all things Al makes it easier to understand how something like Jonestown could actually happen.
I live in Colorado and have watched almost every game since Walker got to the Broncos. He is certainly a talented WR with the potential to be a legit #1. However, he does get injured frequently. More importantly, he is not a team player. I can excuse the GB yapping about his contract because he was young and just wanted to get money, but his exit from Denver really showed his true colors to me. The guy was the man last season (2006, 1000+ yds, 8TDs). Then, when he got injured this season (2007), Brandon Marshall became an absolute beast as Cutler's favorite target. Marshall was arguable a Top 7 WR last season. Walker couldn't handle that and started to complain about it "not being the right situation" for him. How is that? You have a young QB with a terrific arm (Cutler) in a Mike Shanahan offense. Add in Marshall, Sheffler, Stokley and a RB stable of Henry, Young and Andre Hall. Not to mention the ability to learn from Rod Smith. Outside of the offensive line (which needs should be addressed in the draft), that offense has the potential to be explosive for the next 5+ years (Stokley/Henry would be replaced). How is that not a good situation? What that showed is that Walker is a guy who would rather get individual stats on a bad team than good stats on a winning team in a successful offense that would spread the ball around. So, I guess he went to the right team.
Brandon Marshall who is that? I don't remember that Wr too much ,when raiders play Denver. MAybe because hes N Asomugha - B--ch. Lets see what J walker going to in Oakland. Better RBs, Better Fbs, Better Tes, Better Oline(Raiders were sixth leading rushing team and Better QB. Add a Better Defense than Denver. And Denver looks like a third place team,at best in the west.
None of that matters if he blows a knee out again. And let's see Russell do something in the NFL before we say he's better than Cutler.
Do you ever stop to think that maybe you were '6th rushing team NFL' because no one is capable of throwing or catching passes in Oakland? When you can't complete passes, you better be able to complete handoffs. All you did by acquiring Walker is get some gameplan focus off of Ronald Curry, who is still going to be your best WR. RaidersDOH: "raiders win more 5 games this year because j walker down the d hall pick ups. faster, alredy cbs are best than revis who not so good"
Better QB: Cutler vs. "Insert Scrub Here"...really? Better RB: Young/Hall/Henry vs. Fargas/Rhodes...nope Better FB: Sapp vs Griffith????...doubtful Better TE: Scheffler / Graham (46/549/5) vs. Miller (44/444/3)...not so fast, my friend Better OLine: Last season, no, but with the retirements/age, I can be gracious and give you that. Better WR: Marshall/Stokely/Webster/Martinez vs Curry/Tim Dwight...ha! Funny how you don't remember a WR that was 6th in the NFL in Receiving Yards and 5th in Receptions. By the way, Marshall had 11 catches for 149 yards in the Broncos two games against Oakland last season. Dear god, rational thought truly is an anomaly in the mind of Raiderjeaux
YEs jamarcus Russell is a better QB than Cutler. He just does everything better than Cutler. Better ARm , More Accurate. RB- Raiders tandem OF J fargas/ Rhodes and Yes MIchael BUsh is far superior to youir RB group- Travis henry was the biggest FA bust FB _ This one not even Close J Griffith - one best all round FB in the game and Lorenzo Neal Clone Oren O'neal just destroys would be blockers. TEs- Yes Raiders TEs of Zach Miller J Madsen and Blocking TE Fred Wakefield is so much better than Denvers. Only reason Raiders tes didn't put up bigger numbers was because of the QB play. Raiders TEs were a big part of the Raiders rushing sucess Jamarcus Russell only started one game and played in three others and quickly Zach Miller became his favorite target. Oline- Denver Oline is in Shambles. Sorry But ever offense begins and ends with the oline. Your Oline sucks and your offense production not going to be that great. NOw when you throw in Raiders defense. They can pretty much take out all your weapons on offense. N Asomugha - Marshal- tell me how many balls did he catych on Asomugha- Deangelo hall on your second WR. M Huff on any tE you want to send out. Thomas Howard- Any Rb youwant to send out Of backfield. Face IT Denver is clearly the third best team inthe AFc West. Two ships sailing in two diffrent directions. Shanarat time is almost up in Denver. Rats always jump off a sinking ship. Broncos were so desperate for Dline help they were almost willing to gamble on Drobertson knees. Raiders were one bogus timeout, from sweeping the broncos last season. This year they will get that sweep.
Oh joke, whenever will you learn? Dont you think you could at least let Russell play his first decent game before calling him better than anyone?
That's the beauty of raiderjeaux, not only will he declare a player not very good without seeing them play, he will also declare a player great when they haven't played. He shouldn't surprise anyone anymore.
Well your an idiot because both Griffith and sapp play in the same exact zone blocking system. So what your point. Raiders couldn't throw the ball last year because they didn't get consistant QB play. They didn't even try as they were contempt to run the ball.(ran the consistantly well) They ran the ball alot better than the Broncos did. Lets see what raiders TE anD WR do this year with their franchise QB behind center. The beauty part is Jamarcus Russell has running game to lean on. You Oline in shambles thats going to effect the whole offense. Want to make a little wager on whose Tes, RBs put up better numbers next year. Raiders RB do better than Denver and you can assume their FBs did a better job. Likewise if Denver RBs do better , than we can sayn their Fbs were better. Go ahead make my day.
