I can't recall any example where a team traded up into the top of a draft (or even the top five) to pick a particular player and where that player turned out to be worth every bit of value traded. I'm sure there are examples, but I just can't think of any.
Read the sticky thread and don't waste people's time http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=30127
did you miss the super bowl? we traded up last year and 'only' ended up with revis and harris. i would rather trade up and get 2 impact players per draft than stay put and draft 7 backups.
It would take alot more than that to move up to the #1 overall pick... Keep dreaming Chris Long lovers...
I don't recall what Parcells traded for with the Rams but no 2nd was involved. Times have changed. Because of the dollars you don't get the value in picks
I would rather the Jets didn't win the last game vs the Chiefs and we were sitting at #3 guaranteed either Gholston, Long or Long. It's not usually what gets said about the Jets but, THAT WIN COULD HAUNT US FOR A LONG TIME.
Revis and Harris should take the Jets defense to the next level. If healthy, our defense will be set for years to come. If we can pick up Vernon and Mckelvin this year somehow, we will probably have one of the best defense in the league if not the best. I would trade up from our 2nd round pick rather than the first. Trade DRob and the 2nd for Broncos 1st. This is tough but seing what TanGini did last year, this maybe what the trade is based upon. However, Broncos need help all over their defense so I doubt such a thing. Mckelvin may not be their in the teens but Aqib Talib seems to be a good prospect too. Aqib/McKelvin and Gholston/McFadden. Any combination will do. Warning! Trading up is a major risk. DRob ring a bell? We lost so much and gained so little in that trade. We could have had two chances of picking a franchise player but in the end, we will now trade that opportunity for a 3rd rounder at the very very best.
that would put us in cap hell in the future and Long would have to become the MVP of the All Decade Team when he retires... Thats what the expectations would be if we moved up to take him. Its not smart drafting.
Fact is, everyone wants to move down right now. The value is in trading up. Last year proved that. I'm sure whoever trades down will have to take a discount to trade down. BP traded down from #1 to #6 back in '96 for a 3rd rounder + change and traded from #6 to #8 for a bit more. #1 was Orlando Pace and #6 was Walter Jones. We ended up getting Farrior (I think the Rams and Seahawks got the better end of both trades). Given that history, I think we can expect he'll deal down even with a bad deal if he doesn't think Long's worth the #1 pick. My guess is that #2 next year will get the deal done. We might have a #2 coming from the saints next year anyway, so it might not be such a bad thing.
Actually that sems to be a typical Jets fan response. We suck when we lose, and screw our selves by winning. If none of Long, Long, Gholston, and DMC make it out of hte top five it will suck, but thats the life of a Jet fan.
