    The black Dodgers of the 40's hated Vero. It was a very racist town. "Newk" had some not nice tings to say about it.

    Yeah, I'd bet a lot of Southern towns were racist in the 40s.

    O'Malley recognized that he needed to provide more things for the black players on the grounds of Dodgertown, and Maury Wills said that he noticed a big change down there during the 50s, but it's clear from this article that Newcombe never got over the experiences he, Robinson, and Campanella had in the late 40s.
