First, I am in no way trying to say BT is an outstanding OLB. What I am saying is that Pace and Thomas do in fact compliment each other well because they play opposite sides. You said they don't compliment each other and only one will be on the field at a time. That's completely incorrect. NO big deal Alot of injuries and raiders used the second half to look at alot of players. This year with the upgrades, will be better than the third ranking the previous year. Again just look at your personel and Mine. Lets see Dline Is your better. Nope Lbs - your LBs can't do anything better than raiders. Secondary - don't even try and embarrass yourself. Revis is your best Cb might not even make raiders roster. Comparing Raiders defensive talent to Jets defensive talent. Is like comparing chicken salad to chicken Sh-t.

Talking about overpaying Tommy Kelly and stuff like that isn't the subject here. As for the topic, Pace's 6.5 sacks came in his first year playing in a 3-4. The system is tailor made for him to be a strong side outside linebacker. I think he has the speed to cover tight ends but we'll see. The level of interest Parcells had in him makes me more confident the guy is going to be a player. As for BT as a weakside OLB he shouldn't be dropping too far into coverage. He's athletic enough to get to the flats and the hope is by the time he'd have to do any serious covering the oppossing QB would have already had to get rid of the ball. Kiwuanuka played OLB for the Giants and I don't think he's very good in coverage, albeit it's a different system. Vrabel and Colvin aren't great cover guys and neither is Merriman in San Diego. Like everything else the key is going to be game planning and packages. I don't think you'll see too often on long 3rd downs and obvious passing plays Ellis, Jenkins and Coleman with both Thomas and Pace on the field. I think you'll see the Jets taking Jenkins out, moving Coleman or Elllis inside and having Pace or Thomas become more of a defensive end and bringing in either another DB or an athletic LB.
Again your entitled to your opinion But your wrong. B thomas and calvin Pace don't complement each other. I say it will be proven that neither are very good in coverage. (I guarantee you that they will not be Jets starting Olbs) IF when teams isolate one of them in coverage lets see if they can do the job. Neither are the passrushers any 3-4 defense needs there OLBs to be. You can live with Both as your Olbs ,than you don't have any high expectations for your defense. Joe don't kid yourself, Revis is going to be a star in this league, I can garuntee that if he was playing in Oakland he would definately make the roster over a guy like Fabian Washington... He might not start for because Hall and Asomugha are that good, but he damn well would make the team. Besides don't you remember that for the Raiders defense to be 3rd in the NFL it has to stay healthy, and play together as a unit? No matter how good the Raiders look on paper, i seriously doubt their defense will be ranked 1rst or 2nd in the NFL at the end of the 2008 season.
Lets see having the ability to start arguebly two of the top five CBs in the game. No why would any team want to do that. Why would Raiders upgrade their safety- Gibril Wilson over schweigert. I will explain it to you simple. IF you have a dominating defense and you know you can consistantly run the football well than you are going to be a serious playoff contender. Thats without counting on your franchise QB or upgrades in the passing game. Youget that other stuff now your not only a playoff contender, but a contender for a championship.
There was an old Al Davis crony who used to work for the Jets, who liked to say "You are what your record says you are." So, being both 4-12 teams, the Jets and Raiders were really the same piece of crap last year. Let's not fool ourselves. Don't make your team out to be the 1985 Bears that is just some seasoning at the quarterback position away from contending. It's insulting.
NO Fabian Washington his rookie year was way better than Revis in coverage. That with F washington playing 98% time in exclusive man to man coverage. F washington last year(don't know what it was) was not even close to same player he was his rookie year. So off last year Revis was more impressive than him . Now which player is the real F washington 2006 or 2007. Only time will tell. Injuries always play a part in eventually sucess orfailure of a unit. This year Raiders have alot more versatile players. Able to play multiple positions that they are in alot better shape to absorb an injury. Rob Ryan will never get a job if his defense doesn't dominate. Al davis has given him evefrthing he wants to be sucessful. There are no more excuses. PUt up or go to Jets.
For two years we have to hear from Jeaux about how DRob is too small and gimpy to play in the middle of a 3-4... now we find us a 400 lb tank and he wants to bitch about the guys size. Classic spin job Jeaux!

Yea but what the NFL has shown us lately is what happened last year, has no bearing on the following season. Teams that were horrible, can be very very good. Vice Versa too. You look at Raiders personal on defense and they have the ability to matchup to any of the top offenses out there in coverage. THey have the making of a very dominating defense. Last piece is another passrusher De. Again kiffin Beef with wanting to fire Rob Ryan. I improved the running game output tremendously. (sixth in Nfl) IF i got the defense I was advertised to be getting. My team should have been a playoff team. He didn't get that defense and Al Davis has done everything to give him that defense this year. (address the weak spots). Raiders habve good shot at the playoffs next season. Their chances to win a championship will ride on jamarcus russell. Forget Javon walker, they will be the real deal if Jamarcus Russell, is that franchise QB.
