Look NO doubt Jenkins is going to do tremendous job stopping the run. With Both B Thomas and Calvin Pace on the outside those two are also going to be tough to run on. Why will teams try even, when they will force either B Thomas and Calvin pace in coverage. Jets can't stop the pass, than they are going to have to make adjustments, and one of those LB will have to sit on the bench. also a tactic alot of teams used on Ted Washington(similiar weight) They went alot of nohuddle early. Get the big Blob tiried out. Than when fatso goes out , than you run the football. Its reverse physology. Jet fan were sold a bill of goods of Kris Jenkins being back to his probowl form. AT 360 that is not the probowl form, that kris Jenkins played at.
I will tell you Why. IM giving you the heads up because I saw Rob Ryan(Mangini buddy) try to implement the same kind of defense, without having any coverage LBs. Its not going to work. Raiders gave teams alot of trouble when they implemented this defense, but teams found out the way to beat it was to pass. (pick on the DE/olb) It forced the Raiders out of this defense real quickly. Had to, Play with more DBs which in turn made them more suspectible to the run on. Right now I see jets having the same problems - laack of any coverge LBS and fact that their secondary still has alot of holes. Jets might be the Vikings of the east. Great against the run but very soft against the pass. The Point is Jets better find some coverage LBs, or there defense , is going to collapse like a house of Cards. You can live with one of the LBs Calvin Pace or Bryan thomas in the lineup, but you can't live with Both playing together. They are the same player. You need a LB to complement them. (Keith Rivers)
He has weight clause incentives in his contract, doesn't he? I'm sure I read that. I wouldn't worry about it until summer camp starts and even then I'm not sure a NT can ever be too big. Besides he got after QBs last year pretty well even at that size.
Glad you have learned to read. It says AT THE END OF LAST SEASON! Why did you make it sound like he was currently at 400 pounds
Guys go easy on the raiders fan he is stuck with the crappiest team in football. The only thing that could help the raiders is al davis moving on.
How is it old news. IF The front Office wants him at around 360 by the time the season starts. That means hes not at 340 and they want him to be at 360. NO hes has to be up in the 370-390 pound range. (that they are shooting for a goal of 360) Now I ask you did Jenkins ever go to the probowl at 360 pounds.
Didn't Ted Washington play at 400+ most of his career? He did pretty well at that size. Granted Washington was one inch taller.
First off, we're not done yet. We still have the draft, remember? Concerning Jenkins, you admit he's a run stopper, so finally stopping the run is a bad thing? Okay, let's assume your scenario... they stop running altogether and get pass-happy. As we all know, that's pretty one-dimensional, which is a good thing, limiting the other team's ability. But Jenkins also has a reputation for commanding double coverage and collapsing pockets, freeing up others to harrass the QB big time. So again, while your concern is welcome, it's like saying, "I don't want that huge inheritance you're going to give me because I'll have to pay taxes on it." You're looking for black clouds in the silver lining.
Comeon IF HE was not severly overweight still, than you don't set a goal for 360. Why not set the goal for 340. Kris Jenkins didn't make any Probowls at 360 pounds. Also Jets showed their concern about his weight ,by covering themselve with alot of weight clauses. (no that dosen't scream out that they know there a potential problem there)
Stop making it sound like 3-4 can never work just because it didn't in Raiderland. The Pats have been using it for years, tell me they have the same problem with Wilfork? Actually if you watched Pace last year, he was very good at dropping back into coverage. If you put a guy like Gholston on the opposite side who specializes in rushing the passer, that addresses most of your concern. As for hole in the secondary, do you mean Revis and Rhodes? As for coverage LBs, like Harris, who was always around the ball last year when he wasn't making QBs run for their lives? Plus whoever they draft. You also have to remember they resigned Pouha, who was greatly improving last year. If Jenkins gets down to 360, which I have no doubt he will with all the incentives, and with Pouha giving him some relief during games, he can have quite a few years left.
Again see the Vikings. You think people really care that they have the best run defense, when its so easy to throw the ball on you. Teams start jumping on the Jets early. Its tough to try and establish the run, when you have to play catchup. You think the patriots will be afraid to throw the football a majority of the time on yo0ur defense. you think they atre worried they might be one dimensional on offense, ONce teams start really destroying you with the pass, you will have to make adjustments.(and risk being more suspectible to the run)
What was his weight the two times he did go the pro bowl? Or was that 3? Anyway, no matter what his weight is when he reports. Two a days in 90+ degree temps and with them deciding what he can eat at the training table will have him exactly where they want him when the season starts. For somebody to lose 10% of their weight is easy enough just watching TV.
I was getting ready to make that point also, Dabrowski, but you've made it as well as I could have. Joe, you're like the guy who's concerned about his neighbor's yard, yet his own yard looks like shit.
You really think Jets have the same Dline as the patriots. You better have a dominant three man front to hide you lack of coverage LBs. Sorry harris, B thomas , Calvin pace and Gholston are not the coverage LBs, that are going to stop anyone passing game. ONe developing CB not going to cut it. You do know teams play three and four Wr sets . Listen your in denial right now. Lets wait for the season for you to see what Im talking about. Just remember where you heard it from first. Tell Mangini if he wants me to be his DC, he knows where I am.- Raiderjeaux.
It's old news because reports of his weight @close to 400 was last season. What don't you understand about that? This article is simply regurgitating that information from the end of last season. You're probably right that his weight is somewhere between 370 and 390, he should be able to get that down to 360 with work outs. That's his job right now so I don't see a problem with it happening. I could give a fuck about what he weighed when he went to the probowl. We want a FAT FUCK in the middle of our 3-4, so if he gets to the desired weight I'm happy.
The only services Mangini might require of you as DC is if you're a Doctor of Chiropractics, so that when the Raiders show up and we kick your asses, he can offer your services for back adjustments.
