Wow Jets gave upa third and fifth rounder. They want him in the 360 pound range by the time the season starts. Yea kris Jenkins at that weight going to clog the middle, but How long is going to be able to go? How effective is he going to be rushing the passer? Again I see Jets run defense being one of the best, Problem is teams are going to test the Jets early and often with the pass. Do they have the LBS and ther Cbs to hold up in coverage. I don't see it but theres still time to address these problems.

Don't be supprised you see Kris Jenkins on the biggest Loser show, when his football career is over.

I'm afraid threads like this prove who is really "the biggest loser," Jeaux.

Nah. If he want to make a statement like this w/o any proof of his actual weight at all, he needs to be able to handle the heat from the NYJ forum.

He is up to close to 400 but it has been reported he has committed to doing volentary workouts to try to get his weight down.Hopefully this means he is dedicated to getting back into shape and back to pro bowl form.

If you weigh 400 lbs – 360 is only a good shit away.

Now I know whY the carolina area didn't agree with him. Indigestion. What a shame Kris Jenkins was an absolute stud a couple years ago. Could this be the reason why his career been going down hill and fast. Seriously nobody worried about this. I hope the Jets didn't take him out to dinner to close the deal.

I'd much rather have an over weight NOSE TACKLE than 1st pick in the draft quarterback. His job isn't to rush the passer, if he gets sacks that's just a bonus. He has incentives in his contract to maintain proper weight.

Also, where did you read/hear he was close to 400 lbs? I've read that during last season he hit that weight but as far as I've seen he's down from that now.

You're trapped in a room with a Lion, Cobra snake and a Raiders fan. You have a gun with two bullets. What should you do?

Jenkins was such a huge signing for us. It was essential for our D and Pouha is playing well these days too. Jenkins is going to eat blockers all year and with Pace coming from teh outside I am sure heads will roll...The D has already dramatically improved. ROLL TIDE!!!

Lets see. Most Jets ready to get going today
    by Dave Hutchinson/The Star-Ledger
    Monday March 17, 2008, 3:00 AM

New Jets left guard Alan Faneca said a sense of urgency was in the air the moment he set foot in Weeb Ewbank Hall two weeks ago to sign his contract. Twenty to 25 players had been rehabilitating and working out for weeks.

Coach Eric Mangini finally conceded he needed a 350-pound space-eater to anchor his 3-4 defense. General manager Mike Tannenbaum put his reputation on the line by going on a $140 million-plus shopping spree.

And owner Woody Johnson was front and center in the recruitment of linebacker Calvin Pace, talking to him on the phone and making his private helicopter available to give Pace a tour of New York City and the Jets' new training facility in Florham Park.

"No one is happy with 4-12," said Tannenbaum, referring to the Jets' record last season.

The Jets begin the arduous task of erasing that bitter memory today, when they begin their offseason program at Hofstra University.

Free-agent prizes Faneca, Pace and right tackle Damien Woody and newly acquired nose tackle Kris Jenkins will be among those attending the voluntary workouts.

Nose tackle Dewayne Robertson and quarterbacks Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens are also expected.

One player who won't attend, however, is veteran wide receiver Laveranues Coles, who is seeking a new contract.

"We encourage all of our players to come, but this is voluntary," Tannenbaum said.

The Jets are eager to get Jenkins in the program. He weighed nearly 400 pounds at the end of last season and the Jets want him at around 360 pounds. He didn't participate in the Carolina Panthers' offseason program last season because he wanted to be traded.

"This is a partnership between us and Kris," said Tannenbaum, who nonetheless inserted weight provisions in Jenkins' contract that allow the team to weigh him 10 times per season. "We had a great meeting with him and his agent. We got to know Kris as a person. We're starting this relationship with a clean slate."

Although the Jets have come close to trading Robertson -- an ill fit in the 3-4 scheme -- twice in the past three weeks, he's expected to attend, in part, because he's due a $3 million roster bonus in June. Tannenbaum said he has had multiple conversations with Robertson and feels he's a good player who could end up remaining a Jet.

Well when we couldn't get Tommy Kelly for $50M, we had to slum it up a bit and sign Jenkins. Our bad.

I think Coles attitude problem is a much bigger issue right now than is Jenkins weight.

Thank you for your interest in our team, Joe, but what's your point? That Jenkins wasn't a good addition? That he was too expensive? You're concerned about "how long he'll be able to go?"

Tannenbaum's contract with Jenkins has Jenkins all tied up in weight clauses linked directly to his pay. This guy has more than one incentive to keep his weight down and I'm sure our coaches are going to keep a good eye on him, including the provision that we get to weigh him at least 10 times during the season.

I realize you're concerned about our team, but relax. Jenkins was a great acquisition.

  20. I hope he IS close to 400 lbs. He'll be eeven HARDER to move out of thee inside gaps and we wont have to pay him all the weight incentives in his contract.

Thanks for the promising update Raiderjoke!
