Biggs while I agree Pennington played a horrid game in Pittsburgh, you can not blame the fact that when we got into FG range pennington slowed us down. Herm and Hackett called those plays especially that idiotic kneel down. Which led to Brien missing those kicks. I want Pennington to be moved as well, but just because you hate him now doesnt mean you are allowed to blame him for Herm and Hackett's idiotic blunders...

    Fun question:

Even though it's not entirely 100% Pennington's fault- Do you think that if we didn't play the 1-15 Dolphins until the 2nd half of the season twice, does Chad even win a game last year? Substitute the Fins with any team of the 2nd half that we won or lost to. Does he go 0-9? Or does he stay at 1-8?

BTW- if you go 1-8 as a QB in one year, and your backup goes 3-4... why do you deserve to start on any other team ever again?

What does that have to do with how the two played? We aren't discussing expectations but results here. Besides, expectations aside, he won the superbowl, didn't he?

Last I checked Clemens led the Jets to more victories last year than Pennington did.

Great Post. We can have the best line in the league, A top 5 defense etc, etc the fact of the matter is as long as Chad is behind Center we will never be more than a first or second round playoff team. I just find it amazing that everyone on the team gets upgraded but him.

Then as a QB, he did his job.. But i'm not champ so i'm not going to rant about that.

My point is that Chad should be the one playing better because he has been a QB longer. He did have a better game on paper. I would blame the outcome on the coaching staff more than i would on the QB.

Anyone who ignores his past and writes him off does not deserve to be a Jet fan. So johnny, screw you and your stupid opinion.

The question is can an adequate Qb take you to the Sb in the Afc during the Brady-Manning-Lt era? The question is No. Even after all the signings of the past few weeks we are still not as good as those teams and prob not as good as the Browns, Steelers or Jaguars as well. Chad's Mediocre play will not get it done in the Afc. Chad can not make all the throws or did you miss all the game ending interceptions he threw last year when he did get good protection? He can be the smartest Qb in the league if he can't throw what difference does it make. Give me a dumb Gunslinger like Farve or Romo anyday. Being Smart and checking down because you don't have the ability to make the hard throw when it counts is not a good trait.

you perfectly illustrate the point that the word 'fan' is short for fanatic.

    fanatic
    A noun
    1 fanatic, fiend
a person motivated by irrational enthusiasm (as for a cause); "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject"--Winston Churchill

We are not writing him off, well maybe Johnny is.

But for the current team, he is not the best option. He is a stop-gap, a backup, and a liability on this football team.

I will remember Chad and it was fun while it lasted. I wish he was healthier, than maybe it would have been better. he only played 69 out of a possible 128, 54% of the 8 seasons. Thats not good.

Yes, with a slight "Roethlisberger is the much better QB overall" tone to it.

Maybe we should kill all the anti Chad stuff until we have someone else on the roster who is not a complete retard lumberjack from the northwest that can hit an open reciever.

Or isn't a flame headed southern drawl hick who can't throw an 8 yrd out route that doesn' get pick 6'ed. Or when we had a #1 overall pick with a cannon arm who was a NY guinney, maybe he had mob ties.. see i can do it too.

But we do need a QB who can win 12 games.

This was more a function of the defense than of the offense.

According to Dave Hutchinson, Mike Tannenbaum says, "At quarterback, Pennington and Clemens will begin their battle for the starting job. Tannenbaum said the playing field will be level and the best player will play..."

By the way, Pennington is showing up today for the voluntary workouts.

As much as you guys want to rant and rave, the CS and FO, who get paid to do it, are making the decisions about who can make all the throws, and who gives us the best chance for the NYJ to win.

Looks like the competition is on.

I would like to throw it out there that 90% of whether or not we have an offense is based on the OL and the running game. If we have an OL that can force the run at will successfully, then we will win. If all we can do is pass and pray to God then we will lose more than 10 games again, regardless of the strength of the competition.

I don't think it really matters who the quarterback is when you don't have a running game and the OL can't keep the defense out of the backfield.

Until we have completely fixed that and it is working in front of everybody's eyes, I am not happy about the NYJ focusing on anything else.

If we are going to move out of mediocrity and start becoming a powerhouse, we have to do it with force, strength, attitude, intelligence, and not just trickery.

Running the ball down the throats of the competition is far more valuable than whining about who the QB is.

The QB will look like a freaking genius whoever he is if we follow this strategy, in my opinion.

I am not making the argument that Clemens was the savior of the Jets in those 3 games that we won - I was merely pointing out that the criticism of him that we might actually have won some more games if he were an accurate passer was pretty effin silly.

I'll say it again however - to believe that Chad gives our team the best chance to win is to believe that we 'know' what Kellen is capable of. At this point I am not ready to say I know what he can do. I am part anxious/part excited to see what he can do after taking all of the 1st team snaps in TC and preseason then lining up behind a much improved Oline - as I do believe Clemens will beat out Penny for the QB job.
