Robertson's agent, Jets working on deal By Mike Klis The Denver Post Article Last Updated: 03/15/2008 08:54:22 PM MDT Even after their point man in the proposed trade for Dewayne Robertson was dismissed, the Broncos remain interested in acquiring the defensive tackle. Broncos' general manager Ted Sundquist had been working with the New York Jets on the proposed deal until he was fired Wednesday by executive vice president Mike Shanahan. The team's interest in Robertson, however, remains. The Broncos have been working with agent Hadley Engelhard on reconstructing Robertson's enormous contract and with the Jets on draft-pick compensation. The teams have discussed swapping midround draft picks in 2008 along with the Jets receiving a conditional draft pick for 2009. Elam to visit Atlanta. The Broncos will play the Atlanta Falcons this year in the Georgia Dome. For whom will Jason Elam boot? The answer could come as soon as Thursday evening after he's finished meeting with the Falcons. "I am going to be taking a trip to Atlanta," Elam said. After a series of contract proposals were exchanged with the Broncos last week, Elam and his team for the past 15 years reached an impasse, at least temporarily. After the Broncos, the Falcons are Elam's next choice because he grew up in the Atlanta suburbs. Should Elam depart, Matt Prater, who handled Denver's kickoffs in the final two games and kicked briefly for Atlanta last year, will be given a chance to win the job. Thomas update. Broncos' defensive tackle Marcus Thomas had his appearance waived at his arraignment hearing Wednesday in a Clay County, Fla., court. The hearing is expected to be continued because the state attorney's office needs more time before deciding whether to press charges against Thomas, who was arrested March 1 for suspicion of possessing a controlled substance. "We're fairly certain formal charges won't be filed Wednesday, and my hope is they won't be filed at all," said Charlie Truncale, Thomas' attorney. Truncale said he can show Thomas passed a drug test the day after his arrest and that the driver of the truck confessed to possessing the cocaine. Footnotes. The Cleveland Browns will resume talks with former Broncos middle linebacker Al Wilson this week. . . . The Broncos will pay Sundquist through the end of his contract, which expires April 2009. That would be nice to swap back into the third round. It's not much value to get for him, hopefully the conditional pick next year would be a 2nd or 3rd. Anything is better then nothing for D-Rob.
I agree, we could use the cap room also since he is not nearly worth the 11 million he would be getting this year...
OMG just get rid of this guy already! Even if we don't get the greatest deal for him, let's get something. He's going to be on the sidelines most of the season anyway (if we don't cut him this year) and will definately be cut next season, so take what you can get Tanny!!
i dont understand why any team would give up anything more than a 7th round pick for this shmuck. he holds all the cards, hes supposed to make 11 million this year. If someone asked you to restructure and get paid 2 million what would you say. Just cut him and get it over with.
What? The main problem is how much money he makes. If he restructures...even with his knee problem...he'll be a good starter as a 3-4 end. He hasn't even come close to living up to his draft status, but he plays hard and is effective at times.
I don't think he'd be that good of a starter as a 3-4 DE. He's just not long enough to match up with tackles, and he'd end up being neutralized very quickly. Like Vilma, his best long term value to us is to not be on the team at all.
Please get off DRob. He's been a solid player for us. Extremely durable. Yes he was overdrafted but that wasn't his fault. The guys is a pretty good player. Just doesn't fit our system and I agree, can't play DE either. If yo9u want to get mad at somebody get mad at Bradway.
Yea, I agree here. They're making the guy out to be an also-ran. Granted, he may not be playing worthy of the #4 pick, but that doesn't mean he's ineffective in the right system. Despite the chronic knee issue, he's suited up for almost every game in his career, which is more than you can say for Denver's D-Line.
He's a better starter than anything we have RIGHT NOW. I hope we draft someone like Dre Moore to fill that spot.
i would argue kenyon coleman is a better 3-4 de than drob. Shaun Ellis is also playing out of pos at 3-4 end because he is undersized for that position. Drob is better not on this team period.
DRob is a bad or mediocre football player. I cant see what goes on at the defensive line well enough on the TV to decide which he is.
DRob can rush. He can't anchor against the taller tackles due to the reach and height issue. Think Luis Castillo: If only we played a 1-gap.
