why is bradway still with the jets front office.to me he is a kiss of death to picking draft choices.he was a loser with kansas city and he is a loser withe jets.there was good reason to demote him.so why keep him as a talent evaluator.
He's probably close to Woody, and the Woodster would feel bad about firing him. I get the idea he's just getting paid to show up and wander the hallways. Not a bad gig if you ask me. There's always a few of those guys in every company.
Because of all the good deals he pulled off as Gm: 1. Passed on ed reed and took bryan (invisible) thomas 2. realized the safety need and next round took jon the superstar mcgraw 3. forgot to tender coles and lost him to redskins 4. didn't know how to match morton's office sheet 5. agreed to morton arbitrator who had redskin season tickets 6. traded two 1s and a 4 for dwayne (contract) robertson 7. signed greybeard marvin jones to 5 year deal-marv limps thru 2 8. signs greybeard martin to 8 year deal thru the END of 2009 9. signs greybeard chrebet to 7 year del thru the END of 2008 10. doesn't protect RT mcKenzie, our best RT in years-now with Giants 11. trades #1 pick for Jolley (lasted 1 year) and a K 12. still insists that each of the above deals was good for jets
its actually very simple Bradway does like to scout players and view tape and such but he does not like to work out contracts, so he self demoted himself
Because it's the Jets and something always has to be gumming up the works or we'd be a good team? Can't have that now can we?
#11 is just idiotic. The Jets acquired Doug Jolley, a 2nd round pick (47th overall) and two sixth round picks for our 1st rounder and 7th rounder. The Jets used one of those sixth rounders to move up in the 4th round to select Kerry Rhodes. In the end, we got Kerry Rhodes, Mike Nugent, Cedric Houston and Doug Jolley. People blow that trade way out of proportion, especially when they don't even know how it exactly turned out.
I agree on that one, although taking the TE probably would have fixed that position for us for a long time. In general though you have to agree that Bradway's draft day moves and picks have been very questionable and coupled with his ineptitude in free agency have cost the Jets the excellent depth they had when he took over.
Heath Miller was there with our pick that year... thats why i'm pissed about it.. we would've gotten Rhodes anyway by using different picks to move up. If i'm trading a 1st, the guy i'm getting better last 5 yrs on the team and make a pro bowl. That Douche dropped an easy TD too.. Doug Jolley can kiss my dick.
He actually is-- but he shits his pants on draft day, and he can't do contracts to save his life... now that Mike and Eric run the show- they take his advice that is typed on a computer, and then on the last weekend in April, send him to Siberia.
Bradway was awful, but looks some of it looks worse than it is because we switched to a 3-4. That being said DRob has no value 4 years later and Vilma's knee issue became a big issue.
If you think that the GM "picks the draft choice", then I don't think you appreciate how the scouting team works with the coaching staff and the front office. It is a workflow process that is designed to generate consensus picks. Bradway's always been a talent scout at heart. He has family issues and his business skills leave a lot to be desired. I believe Bradway was kept because he pulled back out of his "Peter Principle", took his natural level, and the team of Mangini and Tannenbaum was put in place to manage team strategy and team business. This team decided that Bradway was a valuable part of their talent scouting process. I think we have to look at a 3 year body of work of this team in the draft (and FA, for that matter) before we can see how they are doing. This off-season has been both interesting and exciting so far, and there's no reason to believe that it is going to slow down now. Should be fun.
IMO the criticism with the jolley trade is justified and not cause jolley didn't work out but because bradway, herm, and company felt the jets were a good enough team to draft a kicker in the second round, our 1st pick that year....... folks, if that isn't the biggest misjudgement of talent idk what is........ there is a 11th commandment among GM's and that is you never ever draft a kicker on day one. jil
Of course you neglect the fact that we traded our 4th round pick that year to move up with the 6th to get Rhodes--it is not like we got him with one of the 6th round picks as you imply. As to the trade for our #1 pick, most Gms in the national football league would hesitate trading their #1 pick for a one year TE no longer in the league and a kicker whose kickoffs reach the 20--but we blew that way out of proportion, didn't we? Why don't YOU suggest the jets do that again this year--maybe we'll be able to trade up the in the FOURTH round again if we waste our FIRST round pick. I also forgot how much Jolley and Cedric Houston are still contributing to the jets--thanks for clearing that up--any comment of the other 11 listed errors Bradway made or do you think we blew those out of proportion too? You seem to know how everything turns out--I'm glad we have you to always set the record straight.
Is that how you react when someone disagrees with you... a lot of lashing with few facts. Anyways, I thought that trade was a horrible one, and I have no idea what Herm and Bradway saw in Jolley cus he was a joke the moment he hit the field. From what I remember about Nugent though was that other teams were planning on drafting him in the 2nd. They were probably in much better position (depth/need wise) to draft a K in the 2nd, but Herm and Bradyway much of thought he was the next great K. Overall, you've summed up pretty well why Bradway will never be GM again and the Chiefs will be lucky to make the playoffs as a 2nd wildcard with Herm on board.
But if the jets didnt take Nuge, someone else would have in that very same round. So, the general rule was going to be broken for him anyway.
He's a horrible general manager and a very solid scout. He can break down a player with the best of them but when it comes to trades/drafting/free agency he was in way over his head.
He's not that good a scout. If he was the Jets would not have mortgaged their future to trade up for D-Rob. The bone on bone thing was known at the time D-Rob was drafted, as was Vilma's congenital knee issue. A good scout takes those things into account when he slots a player for his team. Bradway did not.
