Okay, so a lot of people mention how it is good that we were able to scoop up Calvin Pace, because if Parcells was interested in using him in his 3-4 then he should be the real deal.

Why do those people think it wasn't a case of feigned interest, to drive up the value? Like that other conspiracy theory post about pacman kinda?

I'm listening to the Sirius radio interview with CP and he doesn't really sound like he was considering Miami very as much as reports made it seem.

    Go Jets

My understanding was the $$ numbers were set in Miami and he came to NY and Tanny and Eric flipped him and got the job done. Last year was C.Pace's first year in a 3-4 and he played very very well. Its a defense suited for him and I think he plays lights out in Jet green...At least thats the plan I have..hahahaha

What harm was Miami doing by "driving up the value"? They knew we had a huge amount of money available and could match any offer. Also, what if the Jets and Pace called their bluff? What if the Jets backed off and then Pace (and his agent) found out Miami made a false offer? Parcells and thenDolphins would have lost all credibility.

He's talking about Ken O'Brien and Marino in the '83 draft. The Raiders took Don Mosebar at #26 and Miami took Marino at #27.

The rumor was that the Raiders were going to draft KOB & since we picked ahead of them we snatch him up & left pretty boy Danny for the blow holes got it now?

As everybody knows, 5 QBs were taken before Marino..Elway, Blackledge, Kelly, Eason and O'Brien. Elway, Kelly and presumably Marino were all going to the USFL. In Elway's case it was that or play baseball for the Yankees, which he did. Maino changed his mind. O'Brien is still, in my opinion, probably the second best QB in Jets history. The fact they never won anything can probably be pointed to by coaching and other draft blunders.

I said it before Pace signed anywhere- Why would he sign with Miami over the Jets? The Dolphins are a mess and are at least a few years away from being any good and Parcells is over the hill. The Jets on the other hand can challenge for the playoffs and division immediatley and Tangini is a budding young star in this league. If the money is equal, Pace would have to be a complete dope to play in Miami(which is also one of the weakest professional sports cities in the country).

I personally think the idea has real possibilities. Parcells dangles a shiny object, we bite. Or it could be just like it seems - we both wanted him, we got him.

They offered pace $20 mil guaranteed, that's alot to offer someone who you aren't really interested in.

Parcells entering the AFC East also makes me question the players from Dallas he recommended, Coleman and Ryan. Ryan isnt on the team anymore and Coleman hasnt quite lived up to what he is paid. But now im getting a little deep into conspiracy theory....who knows

^Coleman was worth it-- he led DEs in tackles last year with no help around him.. he'll be better this year.

Parcells signed Ryan in Miami, so he's backing up his own recommendation.

Plus, here's the other thing. Parcells isn't the coach in Miami. Who knows what the hell kind of coach Sparano is going to be. He might be a total dick that has no idea what he's doing. Whatever your opinion of Mangini is, he's certainly done more than Sparano.
