If they had to pick one at 6 who would they go for? Desean Jackson is my guess. He is sick, not as big as we would like but a hell of a playmaker and can be on ST as well.
A lot of people are saying none of the WRs deserve a first round grade. I wouldn't take any of them in the top 10. Trade back to anything over 10 and I would take Limas Sweed.
I've been saying this for a while. WR is a huge need. They typically take a couple of years to develop, and Coles is rapidly approaching the end of his career. We need a prototypical #1 receiver.
We won't take a receiver in the first round. Generally, no matter good they may be they take a year or two to develop.
If Gholston and Dmac are off the board at 6, I sure wouldn't mind swapping with a team like New Orleans and taking DeSean Jackson and grabbing another 3rd/4th rounder in the process
I think if we move down to #9 with Cincy or #10 with New Orleans, the WR we should take is Limas Sweed... look up some of the threads on here to find info on him, or Youtube he has a ton of highlight vids. i believe he is approximately 6'5 and in the 217 lb range.... but that is just me thinking that off the top of my head, not neccesarily right. Also I believe he ran a 4.5 at the combine, i think it was 4.54 but at 6'5 4.54 is phenom.

Lots of busts and lots of broken teams even when the WR was not a bust and even the success stories (Pittsburgh SB win in 2005) often have the WR gone beforehand anyway. WR is a bad choice in the top 10. Bad teams make that choice all the time. Even the good teams don't get exactly what they were hoping for.
If there were a Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson or Roy Williams around this year, I'd agree that the Jets would probably take him. But there isn't anything close to that. A wide receiver in the six hole is pretty much unthinkable.
Exactly. Theres no special talent here, and theres no need to reach for a guy. Our 6 pick is pretty much guaranteed to get us a top player in this draft, and I see no reason to waste it on one of these WR's.
I was watching NFL Network a few days ago, and Jerry Rice thinks that DeSean Jackson will become a great receiver in the league.
You cant go against Jerry Rice but I am not a DeSean Jackson fan. :/ The only way we take a reciever is if we were to trade down, we would take so much crap for drafting WR in the #6 spot. I hate our selection, more and more.
I have tons of respect for what Jerry Rice did as a player, but I don't put a lot of value in what he says as an analyst. Jerry never seems to bash anybody. Everybody's always going to be (or already is) a "great player". I've listened to him on Sirius a lot and it's to the point where I turn it off when he's on. A great player, apparently a very nice guy, hard worker, but not somebody that I put a lot of value on what they say. Pat Kirwan on the other hand seems to be a pretty sharp guy who at least says what he thinks and can put himself in the shoes of a GM. He's interesting.
I don't want the Jets to draft a wideout that high either, but if they trade out...I wouldn't mind Jackson. He uses his hands to catch the ball and he has game-breaking speed. He's just small. My favorite receivers are James Hardy and Limas Sweed...because they have great size and we haven't had that since Keyshawn. Clemens needs a legit redzone target.
It's rare that I agree with you, Mr. Blue Font. But I agree. We'd be fools to draft a WR in the first round. There are too many good wide receivers, no great wide receivers. I still hate your blue font, though. (Just who do you think you are, pal?)
Apparently Scott Wright agrees. Our Team needs now according to him. New York Jets Depth Chart 1. Wide Receiver: After talking about it for a couple of years they finally "jettisoned" Justin McCareins so depth is needed. If he keeps complaining about his contract Laveranues Coles could be gone too. 2. Cornerback: Darrelle Revis looks like he's the real deal but Justin Miller seems like he has become a permanent fixture in the coaching staff's doghouse and there really is not a whole lot of depth either. 3. Safety: Kerry Rhodes has quietly emerged as one of the premier safeties in the league but Erik Coleman bolted as a free agent and they will need to find someone better than Abram Elam next to him.
