There are six blue-chip players at the top of this draft. They are rated that way by pretty much everybody. In no particular order they are the two Longs, McFadden, Gholston, Ellis and Ryan..throw in Dorsey if you want. All of them could help the Jets and I don't care who we pick as long as it's one of them. I would hate to see us pick anybody else as a reach. If for some reason more than one were available then my preference would be this. 1a - Chris Long 1b - McFadden 3 - Gholston
Who every said we should draft a 2nd round talent with our 6th pick? I want the Jets to have a great QB, in order for that to happen we have to pursue one or we have to see if Clemens is that one. Where that comes from whether the first, second, last round or FA is okay with me. Drafting 2nd round talent with our first pick is retarded and I wouldn't expect the Jets to do that nor did I or anyone else in this thread suggest that.
This is exactly correct and we will find out this offseason. We don't even have to get to TC to see who the starter will be. If Chad is on the roster in TC he will be starting and Clemens is done in NY. If that is the case, I would like to see them try to get Flacco in or another QB in later rounds to start developing.
They had a Qb Competition last year in Camp and by the way they played in the preseason games Clemens Obviously won it. Chad was given the job out of loyalty not a fair competition. He was also allowed to stay in three games too long for the same reason. Chad is done and if Clemens is not the real deal then we have to draft a Qb and start from Square 1. Chad had six years to prove himself how much longer do you want to give him? Chad is proven? He has proven that he can't get us to the big one. Do you want to continue with a guy who has proven he can not win against superior talent with a good team around him?
I think just because they expect Clemens to have to win the job, it doesn't mean they have doubts about him. Their jobs are at stake if Clemens gets hurt (it happens) or isn't effective, they need a Plan B. Very few QBs go through the whole year and take every snap as it is, so why not make him earn it? If he wins the job and is as good as we hope, we're fine. If not, we're not ready to see another season go down the drain. If you get rid of Pennington you have to get someone else because you need two QBs. So tell me who we get that is an upgrade--not this mysterious "veteran FA", a real name--otherwise we don't do it. Tell me who is out there that isn't a downgrade, in terms of experience and success in the league, knowledge of the offense and respect of the team. QB is an important position, if you can't upgrade it, you certainly don't want to downgrade it.
We will have a better running game than we did last year, no doubt. I consider Jones a good running back but not a great RB as I think McFadden will be. With no appreciable QB and now our receivers are even in question I think a slam dunk running game is needed.
IF Clemens can't cut it we have another three wasted seasons ahead. The Cs better draft a Qb now if they do not think he is their man. I seriously think we should consider trying to sign David Carr and see if he can be turned around.
While I agree with almost all of your above points, the above boldened part is not correct, in my view. Pennington looked better than Clemens at TC last year and was given the starting job because of that. Pennington had a pretty flawless camp in which he exhibited all those positive traits you love and have loved about him. Great command of the 1st team, good smarts, great playbook knowledge and good execution. His passes were more accurate than Clemens but, of course, lacked the crisp, deep pass Clemens has. But the disintigration of the Kendall-less O-line was nothing the CS anticipated, and with it, the return of Chad to his old Deer-In-The-Headlights nonsense. This is Chad's greatest flaw, IMO. Not the fact that he doesn't possess the deep (laser) ball. His greatest flaw is that he doesn't handle pressure well. Clemens didn't either, but if all else is equal and Clemens can at least perform reasonably close to Chad in TC, I say he gets the starting nod.
If you think about the season, both QBs did better when they first got in there. Chad's first two games against the Pats and Dolphins he played well, but as the hits and drops mounted and we couldnt run the ball consistently, he started to play badly. Same thing happened to Clemens, the first few games he was pretty on target and running for yardage, but after the same breakdowns in the offense kept happening, his game got worse too.
Well, the point of THIS thread was to see what people thought about drafting Matt Ryan with the #6 pick. I simply said, well, if he's there and everyone else is gone (Long, Gholston or McFadden) then MAYBE the Jets should consider it. I'm not completely sold on the kid. But if Ryan and Gholston, or Ryan and McFadden are available, then you know where I stand with that. I wouldn't care one way or another if the Jets draft a QB in the 6th round. This season will be more than likely on the hands of Chad again. (And please believe me, I am NOT a Chad fan, but I have to say AS OF RIGHT NOW...*sigh*...he is the best QB we have on the roster.) But I do agree with you when you say that if Clemens can't beat Chad out in TC, then something is really wrong there. If Clemens wins the starting job this season, then I think we can look forward to how this season will play out.
This year's crop of QBs is average. In years with good classes, a first round pick on a QB is still a crap shoot. Matt Ryan is not worth a first round pick. Especially, since Clemons still has this year to prove himself. The money and commitment to a top pick would be a waste. But, just in case there is a steal on day 2. There are two QBs from San Diego. Josh Johnson from FCS (was D1-AA) San Diego and Kevin O'Connell from San Diego State. Johnson was great speed but a terrible arm. He looked like crap at the combine and might be a good WR like Randal El. O'Connell on the other hand stand at 6'6 235 lbs and runs a 4.61 40. He has a good arm and is a smart player. If he doesn't work out. Big deal, a second day pick. No harm, no foul.
PLAGIARISM at it's best. ...and Josh Johnson actually has a decent arm, he just has to get bigger. I think he is still under 200 pounds. He tore it up against top talent at the East-West game and won MVP. This kid is for real: 41 TDs and 1 INT as a Senior at San Diego...and he can run.
LMAO @ plagerims Dude, I'm from San Diego, chump. I've seen both QBs play for years. Johnson does have a decent arm for a D1-AA kid. However, he was the worst passer at the combine. Like I said, he would make a decent WR cuz of his 4.55 speed. He lacks the size to be an NFL QB and the arm. O'Connell has the speed, size and arm.
LMAO @ ur internet lingo. Don't worry "chump", it's not copyrighted. It's plagiarism, how can you spell it wrong when you're so good at it...you could've just copied it from my post, just like you did with this one: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?p=799787#post799787 Dude, I'm also from Cali brah! Surfs up. Just because a guy has speed doesn't mean he'll be Randle El. I've seen both of these guys too...it's not that big of a deal.
Just because my opinion sounds so damn good it seems like a pro wrote it, doesn't mean you're not a retard. Don't be jealous of my literary skills, mental amoeba.
Actually...if you would've clicked on the link that I provided you, you would've seen that I'm that "pro". Nice try though.
