Nice pics, man were you far away from the action in the upper deck. Can't identify who we're playing, but this is somewhere between 1978 and 1984 going by the logos.
The original Diamond Vision scoreboard in leftfield was installed for the 1982 baseball season, so it has to be at least the 1982 NFL season, and since the Jets moved to the Meadowlands in 1984, it has to be either 1982 or 1983. It's probably relatively early in the season, since no one is wearing a hat - September or October - but not too early, since everyone is wearing a jacket. Because of the players' strike there was only one home game in September or October in 1982, and it was opening day on September 12; that seems too early, so that means that it must be 1983. That leaves 9/25/83 against the Rams (27-24 win), 10/16/83 against the Dolphins (32-14 loss), 10/23/83 game against the Falcons (27-21 loss), and maybe 11/6/83 against the Colts (17-14 loss). The stands are full, making me think that it could be a game against a division rival, and in the last picture, it's only 4:12 PM and the end zone seats are already empty, making me think that it was a bad loss. I will therefore guess that these pictures were taken at the October 16, 1983 game against the Dolphins.
Pretty cool pics. Wish i was around i could of went too alot of Jets games considering i Lived just 10 minutes from Shea.
Yea, awsome pics dude, my dad had season tickets in shea and gave them up when they moved to the meadowlands. I wasn't born yet and still hold that against him. He thinks they still belong here.
I consider that high praise indeed, and remember, even though he's a dork, he did end up with Sarah Sidle! Many people in my business have noted that what statisticians do and what detectives do are very similar to each other. As Sherlock Holmes said in The Adventure of the Copper Beeches, "Data! Data! Data! I can't make bricks without clay!"
Except that that game was played in Miami, according to this wikipedia source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolphins-Jets_rivalry
Looking at the scoreboard, you can just barely, faintly make out N.Y. Jets. Above it is the opposing team, and the name is longer than the Jets...so it could say Dolphins(Mia Dolphins?). or another team (PGH Steelers?) I see a 7 under quarter 1 for the opposing team, and a double digit figure in the 2nd and 3rd quarters for them as well. I think I make out a 12 in the 2nd quarter. It doesn't look like the Jets put up double digits in any quarter. You can't rule out the fact that it could be a late season game. Perhaps December 10th against the Steelers. The Jets would only be 7-8 at that point, but coming off 3 straight wins and technically still in the wild card hunt I believe (Seattle got in at 9-7 that year) It can get warm in December from time to time (50-60f), so that would account for the non deep winter chill clothing. And the empty bleachers at 4:12 would be because of the 34-7 drubbing we absorbed. So I'm picking Steelers December 10th 1983.
