OK, lots of disagreement with this move. But I stand by my opinion that Chris Long is worth getting, no matter the cost.

    So I'll tell you what.

I'm going to put that "The New York Jets will trade up to get Chris Long" as my tagline. If I'm right, then I'm right and it'll be its own reward.

If I'm wrong, I will not take the tag down. You guys can crucifiy me and ridicule me throughout the entire season. But I won't take it down.

Bring it, bitches!! We stand by our idle speculation here at theganggreen.com!!!

    Folks,
If a player is the next best thing to sex and the Jets pick him the odds are he will turn out to be a bust. Play at the college level and being a combine warrior don't mean a hill of beans on the pro Football field. Let's look at a guy like Reggie Bush, remember him, he was the RB who was going to mow them down the moment he step foot on the field. Yes, he is a good player, but nothing like he was expected to be at this point in time. He certainly could get a lot better, or he could be at his peak right now and the pro game is just faster then he is.
This is the same deal with any draft pick and to go overboard by trading up, early in the first round is insane. At the sixth spot the Jets are assured a very good young prospect and with the FA holes that were filled this year the Jets are in the Cat bird seat.
Most agree the 6 spot is the perfect place to trade down and pick up at the very least, a third round this year to replace the one we traded away and still end up with a good pick. To trade up at this point for any player is insane, they can just as well turn out to be another Johnney Mitchell or Blair Thomas just as much as they can be another L.T.
I really think the Jets pick at 6 will surprise many folks, if they chose to stay in the spot and not or can't find a trading partner to move out of the spot.
Try this on for size, a rotation of three DT in the game, Jenkins, Dorsey, Pouha, being throw at an offensive line for 60 mintues. Not saying it's going to happen, but it's just one of the possabilties with the situation as it is right now.
This was the nice thing about what the Jets did in FA this year. It allows them to move in so many different directions in this draft.

first of all, no way we give up what the 1 pick is worth according to draft chart, it would be like 1 2 4 and a 1 or 2 next year. Second of all, you said that gholston would not fit because we signed calvin pace, if thats true, where do you put long, WAYY to small to play 3-4 de

Long is a good player, just not so good that we would mortgage our future to get him.

I'll be honest, I didn't read through all the posts, but how can you say Pace negated any interest in Gholston if Gholston and Long would play the same position?

Chris Long would only play 3-4 linebacker in certain situations. He'd be a defensive end in rotation with Kenyon Coleman. He COULD play a variety of positions. He'd be our utility man.

As far as the "draft value chart..." Most GM's wouldn't wipe their asses with a draft value chart. LC a fourth rounder and our number one pick gets the trade done. Devin Thomas in round two to replace Coles.

He's gonna be worth it, people. Mark my words.

It does not seem realistic that we will draft Long now that we signed Calvin Pace who is the same type of player imho. I think the FO will go either CB or G in the first round after they have traded down a few spots.

Nope...he's an OLB in the 3-4 going by his combine. I see no reason for him to put on the weight to be a 3-4 DE because it just kills his value and therefore what he'll get paid.

The rest of this post is pure speculation and I highly doubt an aging WR with recent injury issues that wants a new contract, the 6 pick, and a 4th is going to blow Parcells away.

Even then...I wouldn't want to give Chris Long or anyone in this draft the contract the #1 player will get.

Well, not to belabor the point because I agree that Long will play OLB in the NFL too, but Long is 20 pounds heavier than Gholston so it is Gholston who is wayyyyyy too small to play on the line. Actually 23 I think..284 to 261.

    Long is 272 to Gholston's 266.

You also need to remember Chris Long is a guy who's going to lose a shit load of weight during the season just because of the way he plays. That scares me a little as a DE.

I doubt that trade gets it done. If we shopped Coles on the open market, we'd be lucky to get a 4th.
