No the thought is that if we go up to 1 and get Long, they drop to 6 and can still take Matt Ryan as their franchise QB.

I love Chris Long as a prospect but i cant sell the farm for the kid... its not very "big picture"-esque... if he falls to 3, maybe. Before Oakland picks him up, but not at 1.

^ yeah not following that. we somehow trade up to the #3 spot in the draft without trading our #6 pick in this draft. so then with number 3 we take chris long, then with # 6 we take matt ryan. and atlanta will agree to this cause we're sending them... chad pennington. yeah makes perfect sense.

ahhh... ok now after reading that i get it. i dont see it ever happening cause we'd have to send all our draft picks this year to do it.

    No, lets try again...

We trade with Miami... We get the #1 overall, they drop to #6.
We take Long, they take Ryan...

    (Separate thought)

If Long drops to #3 with Atlanta-- we maybe move up to that spot and take Long before Oakland does.

IF long drops to #3 we'd have to give up our first, second and fourth. but we have 6th and 7th left so we should be fine.

The odds of finding great talent in the later rounds is tough, but i feel its almost worth it if Long proves to be the next icon he's projected to be.

What will radio city sound like on draft day if our Logo pops up at the #3 spot?

That is pretty much what I was saying but not exactly.

I think moving up to #1 is too expensive. I said if he drops to 3 and he will if Miami doesn't take him then we trade with Atlant for that pick and take Long. ATLANTA can still take Matt Ryan at #6 because I don't believe either Oakland or KC will take a QB. THEY get the player they want (Ryan) and a couple of extra picks and we get Long.

Right. No matter what the scenario, Ryan is taken at #6 and we move up to get Long.

This posting convinces me that you have injected/inhaled or absorbed something. The signing of Calvin Pace and the Immortal Jesse Chatman is what made you think we are getting Chris Long.If you are right come draft day then I have been smoking/inhaling or absorbing something.

    Haha..

For moving up yes, but when the pick is announced we'll be thinking "well we moved up its out of our hands" and then cheer for Long. I don't think we should boo Chris, considering he'll be in the building.

So, what you are saying will happen is that they will Boo moving up this year after having their best free agent signings in a century but they cheered last year moving up (twice) after doing absolutely nothing in the off season?

    Uh..I don't think so.....

Basiclally, "So we cough up all our picks and get Long, what's the problem?!"

I'll tell u what the problem is, there are still spots to upgrade or fill on this Jets team. OL (Woody is no long term answer, and Moore is decent), WR, LB, HB (Jones ain't getting any younger), DE and FS.

I have faith in Mangini and Mike T when it comes to finding good players in the later rounds. We found talent on the later rounds when we drafted Brad Smith & Leon Washington in the mid-rounds.

I'm not saying I want the Jets the trade up but...

That chart is complete BS. They have to change every year for it to have any mean anything what so ever. The players this year the top 5 players can go anywhere, Long, Ryan, McFadden, Jake Long, etc in the top 10 picks. Which means the value of the 1st pick goes down. This year isn't like over the years where people can see the top tier talents like Reggie Bush, Eli Manning, etc.

    1. Hell no we're not trading up. At least I hope not.

    2. Chris Long is the closest thing to LT? WTF?

    I love Jets fans.

So...Thomas Jones was nothing? It's funny cause I remember Jets fans thinking we had "closed the gap" between us and the Pats after that move. Most loved the Coleman signing at the time too. Most also loved resigning Cotch so cheaply.

Well, the chart is only a guideline, I agree. The real fact is that nobody since the Jets has traded into the top 5 in seven or eight years so it probably won't happen anyway. Parcells is dying to get out of that spot. Oakland was last year too and even Detroit tried to get out of #2. It just doesn't happen anymore. Teams not only have to give up a ton of picks to do it but then they have to spend a fortune to sign the #1 pick too. If they turn out to be a bust you have set your franchise back for years.

I would agree except that Long seems top be so special a player that he might be all we need to have a dominent defense this year. If that were to be the case it would be worth all of those picks to do it.
