With the addition of Calvin Pace and Jesse Chatman, I think the desire to fill holes with Vernon Gholston or Darren McFadden has expired. I am completely convinced that the Jets are targeting Chris Long and will likely trade with Bill Parcells for the first pick in the 2008 draft. Mike Tannenbaum would like this off-season to go down as the most active off-season in franchise history. He's got an ego; we all know that. More power to him. He demonstrated last year that he will do whatever it takes to get the player he wants on draft day. With a player that some very well-respected scouts are calling "the closest thing to LT I've ever seen" just five spots away from us, and with a complete team already on the roster, it's time to get luxurious. Yes, we need depth at wide receiver. Yes, we need depth at cornerback. But Chris Long is the closest thing to a can't-miss pick I've ever seen. We've got the ammunition: We've got two fourth rounders, an unhappy Laveranues Coles (shhh! Lots of depth at WR in this year's draft!) and an extra pick from Pete Kendall in next year's draft. Please, Mikey Christmas Tree!! Please make this happen!! This guy is a monster, a beast, a tank, a wendigo! He is a FRANCHISE MAKER. "WITH THE FIRST PICK IN THE 2008 NFL DRAFT, THE NEW YORK JETS SELECT... CHRIS LONG, VIRGINIA!!!!!"
I pray we don't trade for the first pick. If anything, I think all of these signings have put us in a position where we can let the draft come to us.
No fuckin way...we would have to give up our first round pick in 2009, along with our 6th pick this year and other mid rounders. No...absolutely not.
I would lose all faith in this FO if we traded up again. This is the worst year in recent memory to have the first pick in the draft and we are going to trade up to it?
Exactly. It would cost this years 1st, 2nd, one 4th and next years 1st to get the first pick. However, if Miami takes someone else and he drops to 3rd or 4th because of other teams needs then it is entirely doable.
I guess you don't know how the draft works. Read this and see exactly what the value of picks are and what it takes to move up. http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm
BTW, Atlanta would be a great trade partner if he slipped to 3 and he will if Miami doesn't take him. Neither Oakland or KC will proabably take a QB so they would still get the guy they want plus a couple more picks.
and he demonstrated in 2006 that he's also willing to trade down. ALSO in that draft he wanted to move from the 4 pick to the 2 pick but decided against it, and he also wanted to trade up to get jay cutler but didn't pull the plug.
Yeah, and I can't see Parcells taking anybody else. Some people are saying he is the best pass rusher to come out of college since Lawrence Taylor who Parcells is intimently familiar with and if that wasn't enough Al Groh (Parcells' old coach and Virginia's current coach) has already told him he's Parcells kind of guy. Throw in his blood line and it's a no-brainer. The only way that doesn't happen is if Miami trades out of the spot to somebody who has a specific need other than OLB (which I doubt).
I don't even know where you get that idea from. Jesse Chatman got signed to 1-year deal, and Pace will be great depth at a position where you can never have enough LB's. I agree, Chris Long would be a great pickup IF AVAILABLE, but moving up in this trade makes no sense. Gholston or McFadden would be a nice addition to the Jets.
I agree with your sentiment that Chris Long is quite poissibly the best player and fit for the Jets in this year's draft. But I just don't see the rationale for giving too much for him.
I think you better put down that Gang Green Ganja and go eat a bowl of Realitio's. It's a balanced breakfast packed full with daily values of minerals, Vitamins "W", "T", and "F" plus a special dose of Vitamin "C"ommon Sense. More potent than Flintstone Vitamins.
Yeah, and start an unproven QB in Clemens or will it be a rookie from this Draft? Pick your poison. *Sigh* Look, I'm no Chad fan, but can we just all agree right now that unless we sign someone like a Big Ben or Peyton Manning, or Carson Palmer, that Chad Pennington will probably give us THE best chance to win a few ball games next year?
I was actually referring to the fact that they could still get Matt Ryan at number 6 if we made that trade.
This thread was about moving up on the Draft to take Chris Long, wasn't it? And how it was a bad idea, right? The moving up part. Not the taking Chris Long. So...now we want Matt Ryan? ?!?!?!?!?!?
