In my opinion, he should. However, because of the FO's FA and Draft strategy, the cap may very well force a release of DRob before 1 June. The best thing would be for Tannenbaum to renegotiate his contract, take away his cap hurt, and keep him on the DL. DRob has done everything they have asked of him, and it's sometimes been to his detriment. You will note however both in 06 and 07 when the DL changed around the bye DRob showed up often thereafter. DRob was never positioned as the stereotypical Pilsbury Doughboy 3-4 Nose Tackle plopped down in the middle of the line to plug it up and force double and triple teams. He is the fastest interior lineman for the first few steps and probably the strongest. DRob seems to shine when he stunts or does something to the offensive guard or center they are not expecting. DRob often seems to come out of nowhere to blast an RB or sack the QB. Perhaps with more dominating line-mates (i.e., he's off the nose) his skills will be more successful. There's no question that he hasn't delivered the round one draft pick performance that fans justifiably expect in the first four years. But I believe he is a keeper ...for somebody.
Not unless there's some creative accounting, that accommodates his bloated contract that he is not worthy of. If it's not detrimental to the team (salary wise) to keep another able body on the team for this season, why not? In reality though he's not worth anywhere near his salary or his draft selection.
I voted no, my reasoning is even though he is making a ton of money, I think he would be a tad disgruntled being well aware he was being shopped and a trade fell apart at the 11th hour...Cant make for a comfortable situation for anyone involved...
My I don't care vote was really for not sure. If the Jets can't find a trading partner, they may cut him for cap relief. It would be bad to lose him for nothing, but not out of the question.
Dewayne probably still thinks can't nobody block him, and the fucker is a $9 million cap hit if he remains on the team. Unless he severely restructures, he's either traded or cut. Zero chance he is a Jet in 08 IMO.
I love D-Rob, I hope he stays, but chances are he won't... And in that picture he deosn't look that much bigger than Mangini...
Newsday's Tom Rock posted this on his blog today... I think the first rumor out of the chute was S. Rodgers to Jets, Robertson to Denver, Foxworth and a pick to Detroit about a week ago. Maybe this is still alive down the road. Two birds? If the Jets are looking to bolster their cornerback position and get rid of Dewayne Robertson, they might be able to do both in one shot. In an interview with Newsday's Alex Labidou, the agent for Domonique Foxworth of the Broncos says that his client would be interested in playing for the Jets. Foxworth is a restricted free agent with the Broncos, a team that is known to be in the market for a defensive lineman. Like, say, Robertson. There aren't any current talks between the teams, Jim Ivler said, but it's possible that as Robertson's $3 million roster bonus deadline gets closer and Foxworth's frustration with his role in Denver increases, the teams could find a way to swap headaches. Living in Denver, I know Foxworth is a pretty good corner, and good character guy as well. Here's the scouting report on espn: Comment: Foxworth has been a backup for his first two seasons in the league but sees a lot of game time as the primary nickel back as well as in dime packages. He has adequate size for the position to go with good speed, quickness and agility. He plays the game smart and understands angles and coverage schemes. He has quick feet in his pedal and can clear his hips quickly and easily when turning to run with receivers deep. He has an extra gear to catch up with a receiver who has gained a step on him and when pursuing across the field. He is quick and clean in his transition and has a burst to close on the ball in front of him. He is not great at locating the ball when he has his back to the quarterback and can lose touch with the receiver when he turns to look. Foxworth is not a strong tackler and can bounce off some of the bigger running backs, so he needs to tackle low and take their legs out from under them.
DRob is an asset, not a liability. The NYJ are treating him as such. You have to come to terms with the NYJ's investment in the guy. Also, I think he grades out a helluva lot better than the consensus on this blog or this thread takes into account. DRob has done everything they have asked him all along. The only thing he has requested and gotten without comment is to be rested on Wednesday and Thursday because of the bone-on-bone condition of his knee. In my book, DRob is a helluva NYJ and he needs to stay to reap some benefits for us as well as him. I have no doubts about his heart and his dedication and his smarts. He just needs to be pulled out as a round peg from that square hole and put where he can kick some ... well for those of you who have ready what I've been saying you probably know about marvelous violence. This is a marvelously violent SOB in my book.
trade him for a draft pick unless he can play DE bc Ellis sucks...Idont know if he can soooooo....trade him for a pick and draft a DE that can play the 34
"Will Robertson Still Be Here?" Yes, but only if they still have the same lunchtime menu at the Netherlands to which DeWayne had became accustomed while Herm was still here: double helpings of fried chicken with mashed potatoes smothered in gravy.
