it would be nice to draft mcfadden but i see the Raiders drafting him a #4. but if mcfadden is gone do you think we could possibly draft Rashard Mendenghall? Alot of people think mendenhall is as good if not better than mcfadden. If we cant find anyone to trade up or we just stay at #6 do you think mendenhall is worth the #6 overall pick?
No, They'll take Gholston if he is still available. and at the Raiders drafting him. They have 6 RB's. I really don't see them drafting anymore running backs.
Too much of a risk. Maybe Stewart. Anyhow the Jets 1st Round RB luck is not the greatest. I love to get WR Hardy but thats too early as well. We should trade with Big D.
why would we spend 42 million dollars on a starting OLB and then turn around and draft a player at the exact same position?
No, the main argument for drafting McFadden is that he would almost certainly be the BPA at #6. As good as Mendenahall and Stewart are, they would definitely NOT be the BPA at #6 if McFadden's gone.
Because OLB is one of the weakest parts on our team. Because you can never have enough talented linebackers in a 3-4. Because Bryan Thomas sucks. Because they may have Gholston as thier highest rated player at that point. There's 4 good reasons for ya.
why has this draft suddenly turned for worse? Now no one can agree on a decent #6 pick now that no one knows what the hell Oakland is going to do, and no one is worth the 6 money.
At this point I think its too much of a risk to take any RB in the top 7 besides McFadden but he will mostlikely be gone by the first 5 picks. At 6 if we stay we draft Gholston or if Chris Long somehow falls to us we take him but drafting Mendenhall at 6 is too much of a risk... Plus a duo of Thomas Jonez and Neon Leon is just fine.
the draft hasn't turned for the worse -- it hasn't even happened yet. fan's opinions who have no influence on the Jets decisions whatsoever don't reflect anything upon the actual draft itself. I'm not sure how you can be upset or ocnfused by any of these discussions.
I'm a Jet fan, knowing the trends of this organization... its already screwed up. Its not their opinions, its my own draft board in my head... DMC is a big risk, no other RB is justified at that money right now, CB is not a huge need, Gholston is looking like the next Merriman which is what we need, and he's running under 4.6 and jumping 3 1/2 feet in the air (42" vertical) making him a top 4 pick, Chris Long looks like the #1 but if Ryan goes there i've seen Long drop to us which makes no sense but i'd take it... my draft board, which was simple and clear has now been thrown out and i can't predict where the hell anyone is going... i need order in my life- OCD does it to me... and now i can't figure out what seemed so easy... last year was easy in the top 5, Russell, Johnson, Thomas, Adams, Levi Brown (he was the slight shock) This year its all over the place....... Fuck it, i'll just enjoy the mayhem.... Draft Joe Flacco #6 overall
Because there are two starting OLB's, one on the strong side and one on the weak side. Pace is an strong-sider while Gholston projects to be a weak sider.
People - Gholston would play WEAKSIDE - Pace is strongside. Gholston would upgrade Bryan the invisible man waste of a pick that should have been Ed Reed Thomas
Why would the Jets spend $20 million on Thomas Jones, draft Leon Washington, and then draft a player that high in the draft at the same exact position and pay that unproven player huge amounts of money when only one player can carry the ball at once. Last time I checked, the Jets played 4 LBs and, even with the Pace signing, do not exactly have an embarrassment of riches at that position, nor one premier pass rusher.
Because none of those RB's you mentioned are gamebreakers and that is with the Jets are missing. I love Leon, but he is nothing more than a 3rd down back and a kick returner. Only Jets fans think he is a #1 back. Thomas Jones is a solid back but he will be 30 when the season starts and is really more of a grinder. McFadden is a burner that ran a 4.27 40. The Jets don't have anyone on O close to being that fast. At worst McFadden should be a Reggie Bush type...at best he could be similar to Peterson.
I voted yes, only because anything is possible. I thought this draft was going to shake out pretty easy, but when you factor in the changes as a result of the free agent market plus one does not know how many of the players at the combine graded out, the draft could go in a lot of different directions.
The Jets are also missing a pass rush and a pass rush is far more important than a RB, as the Giants proved this year. If you are counting on Pace to save the pass rush, keep in mind he has 14 career sacks. Who were the Giants' game breakers on offense this year? Burress couldn't run with a bum leg all year. Toomer? Jacobs? These "game breakers" are overrated, especially those that have not played an NFL down. The Jets need to reclaim the trenches. Faneca, Woody and Pace were just a start. They need a dominant defensive player far more than a RB. RBs grow on trees. Pass rushers are rare. Gholston over McFadden in a heartbeat.
