As per profootballtalk.com... Posted by Michael David Smith on March 5, 2008, 6:05 p.m. The Jets have been among the most active NFL teams in the early days of free agency, and they?re not done making moves. Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News reports that Bears special teams ace Brendon Ayanbadejo could be the team?s next free-agent signing. And Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Jets brought in Vikings free-agent fullback Tony Richardson and Patriots free-agent defensive back Eugene Wilson for visits today. Ayanbadejo and Wilson both have connections to the Jets? coaching staff: New Jets special teams coordinator Kevin O?Dea spent the last two seasons working with Ayanbadejo as the Bears? special teams assistant, and Wilson and Jets head coach Eric Mangini worked together in New England. Adding Richardson, one of the NFL?s best fullbacks, would be the latest sign that the Jets are determined to bolster their blocking. The Jets have already signed guard Alan Faneca and tackle Damien Woody. But the news that the Jets plan to spend even more money on free agents won?t sit well with the anonymous Jets veteran (who everyone believes is wide receiver Laveranues Coles) who complained about the Jets? moves in free agency, saying, ?You pay guys you don?t even know, and the guys in the locker room ? the guys that have your back ? you don?t give a damn about them.? ================ We knew about those other free agents but this simply confirms the shopping isn't over.
Coles wants a new contract every other season , He had an average season where he was outplayed by Cotchery why would u get a new contract ? Either trade him or Pay him , He's gonna be cancer in the locker room.
Would be very excited about the addition of Richardson and Ayanbedajo. Also I heard we were bringing in Ben Utecht this week, the RFA from Indy. Any word on him? I think he would be an excellent addition as our #2 TE. he displayed great hands in Indy, and has solid blocking ability. On a side note, I have no iniside information what so ever to back this up, but I have a hunch that Coles isn't our anonymous veteran who is speaking out. I have a feeling it is another guy who is disgruntled about the fact he has yet to see a big payday since he entered the league, when he is definately due one, in fact he will have his payday sometime in the next year. Say hello to our anonymous vet, Kerry Rhodes. Nobody would argue he has the right to a big payday, so if the fans knew Rhodes was the anon. vet, people wouldn't exactly be commending him for his speaking out, but they would be behind him 100% But because they think the guy speaking out is LC, he is a dirty greedy bastard....
Tonyyyyy... That would be great. I would like to see us address safety in the draft or try and develop Elam.
I like Coles. He is a warrior. He needs to shut up. "Trade me to the Redskins." "I don't like the Redskins, can I come back?" "I don't think I can handle another training camp!" "I'm a captain now, I want shorter practices!" "I want a new contract!" Apparently somewhere in there, Laveranues Coles said, "I got your back, New York Jets." Don't recall hearing that one.
To be fair I would NEVER say that about a team. These are corporations that usually care very little for the players other than their productivity.
Incidentally, if the Jets sign Richardson... 99.9% sure we draft McFadden. (That .1% is Chris Long's Five-Spot Fall).
Jets | Team negotiating with T. Richardson Wed, 5 Mar 2008 17:01:40 -0800 Kevin Seifert, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports the New York Jets are in contract negotiations with free-agent FB Tony Richardson (Vikings).
Actually, in coles defense, he never was traded to washington, we tendered him as an RFA with a first round pick. So Washington signed him and Chad Morton to large offer sheets, so we decided not to sign either offer sheet, so Coles followed the money to Washington. Then he never asked to be traded back to the NYJ, he just wanted out of DC cuz they were a bunch of loser morons. The comment about him 'not' being able to handle another TC is rediculous. He said to the media during the first TC in 2006, that the camp was insanely difficult, and it was impossible for him to believe that with this tough of a TC the team would have the stamina to survive the season. Of course he was wrong, we went 10-6 and made the playoffs. Also I do not believe LC was the only guy complaining at that point in time, I believe Baker was another guy who spoke up at the time... Also when the hell did Coles decide we needed shorter practices? I never heard anything about that... Not saying it was never said, but i never heard anything about it. "I want an extension" not "I want a new contract!" the extension makes it so coles has a chance to retire a Jet. I have not once seen it reported Coles wants more money per season, just a longer-term deal so that he can retire in NY. I believe that is identical to what Baker asked for, (Baker also spoke out against Mangini and camp hell 2006) but no one is calling Baker a money-grubbing greedy dirt bag bastard. I personally feel that Coles deserves his extension, and so does Baker, but the treatment Coles is getting is very one-sided and should be spread around if you guys really wanna be fair.
I'm not a fan of Coles' whining, but in his defense, he has their back whenever he goes across the middle for a floater and gets creamed for his trouble. He's fearless in that department. The vast majority of receivers are not.
I agree-tell Coles to take a hike--Like HE knows a thing about loyalty after bolting to the Redskins for megabucks in 03.
How ya been Tomdeb? You must be lovin all these Bradway carr overs being dropped..:rofl2: Coles is beginning to sound like a fool. He's been pulling this "leon" stuff for too may years now(and for multiple teams). He has 3 years left on his contract...he only has 2 good years left...and the FO has offerd to GUARANTEE every penny he has left on his contract over that time span. What more does he WANT?
