At some point , this year, maybe next? Jets fans will turn on Mangini, Or will they?
With all the FA moves going on , its obvious that the intent to quickly move things along and play catch-up with the Pats and stop looking over our shoulder at the Bills and Dolphins is the mandate.
Alot of fans and posters here have us being serious contenders next season or at least the season after , but as we all know, patience is not a strong point being a Jets fan. So, if Mangini doesn't have success early on next season, is he going to get the rough ride, and will you give it to him?
Alot rides on the draft in April , a bad draft could be the end of the Mangini era.

Well, I think these FA moves are seen by the NYJ as affordable, not disruptive to their drafting strategy, and bring in ready-to-play professionals that the CS likes a lot.

These FA moves are positive moves. It's easy for fans to criticize expensive investments especially without a NYJ body of work in place for each FA yet. But if the FO were to spend similar money on high draft picks, the odds (defied last year by Revis and Harris) are that we would wait longer to see the results than with NFL pro FAs.

Hey, the FO and CS could be absolutely wrong on some of these FAs. But Woody Johnson is ready to take the shot -- the FO and the CS did a detailed cost benefits analysis to the very best of their ability. They've revamped the coaching staff to focus on the new strategy effectively. This regime is being given everything that they asked for. This is what you want as a fan. A wholeheartedly all-in effort.

As fans, we should be happy campers. the game is afoot!

Him & Tanny are already hanging by there fingernails with the Brick pick. Remember he was #4 overall & came highly recommended by Groh. Maybe Groh finally got back at the NYJs for whatever sins he think they foisted on him in his year as HC. That is why just like Penn Staters I was very leery about a UVA guy

If the Jets get off to a slow start? For sure the Jet fans turn on him. You can't go 4-12 after 10-6, get rid of good players and high draft picks like Vilma (while paying Bryan Thomas million$) and expect everyone to love you.

If they get off to a strong start and have a decent season (I'm thinking 7-9 minimum), no problemo.

Oh please. They are not "hanging on their by THEIR fingernails" because of the Brick. It was the concensus best pick by them and practically every draft evaluator I read. Brick actually played well last year, it is a myth that he didn't, perpetuated by people who don't know much about Oline play. He had to cover for the human doggie door next to him, Clarke. He missed his assignment because he had to cover Clarke's guy. Bad play on the Oline has a ripple effect.

But who cares about facts, you've been bashing the Brick pick from day one.

If the CS and FO is in danger of losing their jobs, which I don't think they are, it is for going 4-12 last year.

Draft picks do not define a HC's career, or Bill Parcells would have stopped getting phone calls years ago.

The average Jets fan will turn if they aren't winning games.

Most of the folks here will turn if there isn't significant improvement in moving the football, scoring points, rushing the passer, and stopping the run.

I'm not counting on a SB run, so record means little to me. I just want marked improvement over 2007.

Regardless of what the fans think, Tangini will not go 3 and out. As fans, that should be the last thing we would want anyway (all new coaches and systems, again?) but as Jets fans we tend to off the deep end way too soon. Thankfully, Woody gets the last call, and based on the way he's letting them spend money, I believe he's going to give them 5years total to produce a product that can consistantly win the AFC East.

you know..we can all thank the er..giants for this bonanza, as their SB win exposed the jets
as distant second class cousins in this town. woody HAD to step up to stay relevant.

This is what I mean. I'm all for giving a coach the time and resources to build or revamp a team. Was the timescale too short though? Again, we as fans are far too impatient with whoever the current emcumbant is.
Woody has certainly shown his metal and so has Tanny to a degree , BUT the buck stops with Mangini.
I really hope that Mangini works out for the Jets , hes young and could be around (for us) for a long time and hopefully winning.

Parcells gets calls because he wins everywhere he goes. If Mangini did that he wouldn't have to worry either.

If the team goes 5-11, then they will be in extremely hot water, possibly fired, but due to the FA frenzy the expectations are at at least 7,8 Games, maybe a wild card again. A winning season gives them another 2 years, a mediocre one gets them the year after this one, a bad year probably gets them canned.

Lets hope for a good year.

WILL turn on Mangini? It seems to me half the board already has.

It will take a long time for me to stop believing in this guy though. I think he's smart, and a class act.

    Time will tell...

(of course I'm the guy who believed Marion Barber was gonna be the greatest Jet FB ever!)

If they really do have a QB competition and Clemens by chance wins it and because he doesn't get all the reps he should the team gets off to a bad start Mangini and Tannenbaum will deserve the Bronx Cheers. If they decide to start Chad and he throws a couple of pick 6's early to lose some games they will also get the Bronx Cheer. I think they they must make the right choice at QB prior to TC and get off to a quick start or there will be blood.

His level of success has diminished more with every team he has gone to. He hasn't won a Super Bowl in the past 17 years. And the only reason I made that point was because you ignored the one I was making.

Well, I think they have amply prepared for what will happen in the draft. I think we should have a good year based on the pick ups, but now it falls on the coaching to make it go. Anything less than 8 wins next year will be a disaster, IMO. We now have too much talent not to do well. We won't win them all, but we should do pretty good.

As for the #6, if we get McFadden, Gholston, or one of the Long's I will be quite happy. There are a couple of other's I wouldn't mind either, but never the less, I think we get somebody good with our #6 or we get handed an array of picks which include some high picks for next year because somebody is hell bent on trading up for McFadden.
