The following 2 paragraphs are taken from Cimini's blog on the nydailynews website: """There was a revealing moment on Faneca?s conference call with the media today. Asked about Mangini?s notoriously tough training camp and practices, Faneca admitted he ?heard from various people and places about some of the practices.? Asked if that scared him, Faneca said, ?If anything, it swayed me to (the Jets). I?m not the kind of guy to run from a difficult situation. It swayed me in this direction to know the work ethic was already in place to win games.? Puh-leeze. Look, I don?t know Alan Faneca - I?ve heard nothing but good things about him - but let?s not be naive: He came to the Jets because of the exhorbitant contract. Why else would a seven-time Pro Bowler with a Super Bowl ring go to a 4-12 team with an unsettled QB situation? It?s always about the money. And for this kind of coin, he?s willing to put up with a taskmaster coach.""""" I know Cimini is pretty decent at covering the Jets (much more so than anyone at the Post) but these blog entries are completely misleading. If I werent that familiar with the Jets and read Cimini's blog, I would think that nothing has changed with the Jets and the only way we can get free agents to come play for us is if we offer them the most money. The reality is that Faneca could have made the same money with San Francisco but chose us over them because his gut told him we were moving in the right direction. The reality is that Parcells and Miami had almost locked up Pace but the Jets were able to sell him on playing here. The reality is that Kris Jenkins was immediately gushing to the media as soon as he was officially a Jet about the team's obvious committment to winning. Cimini should write about how things are changing and how players are starting to view us an a team on the rise. He should take his job seriously and speak the truth. I guess thats too much to ask.
amen, brother. The guy is a jackoff. He wouldnt write any shit like that in the paper because he would have his lunch handed to him. He has taken this tactic because he is not in the loop anymore like he was in the edwards era. He is the writer of the disgruntled (kendall), he has no access except for those who need bad press.
Cimini isn't too bad when reporting facts, but when he has to inject his opinion into an article, that's when he reveals himself as a POS hack. The guy takes shots at Mangini any chance he gets because since Herm left he actually has to work to get his stories instead of having them handed to him by the HC.
These players aren't complete idiots. They know that there is quite a few young talented players on the Jets. A player like Faneca that has been to 7 Pro Bowls, and is a bit undersized for a guard. Carried at 307, is probably a work out warrior. I don't think Mangini's camp scares him much. In Jenkins case, he complained about hating Carolina and wanted to play in the BIG city. He also complained publicly about some of the other players on the team quitting because Fox wasn't tough enough. Looks like he got his wish. With all the criticism of Mangini last season, and some of it deserved, the one think I don't think they did is quit.
Yea, Cimini's been boo-hooing about that for a while now. It's why sports writers should keep their opinions to themselves, because most of their opinion comes from whether the guy they're writing about bent over backwards to please them or not.
The thing that pissed me off is the blog about the QB. Talk about stating the obvious. Nothing is going to be resolved until the season starts so why rain on the Jets parade. Are they suppose to do nothing because our QB's are in question? Were the last 4 days suppose to fix everything? Is there no way Clemens comes in and lights things up? How do you want them to fix it media. Get Griese? There is nothing we can do but surround Clemens with more talent and get him ready menatally and physically. Meanwhile, we fixed the offensive line and hopefully the run defense.
While, I may not agree about what Faneca really thinks, Those were Faneca's EXACT words when Interviewed by Michael Kay. i really do not know or care who Rich Cimini is but he is reported facts in this case. (?If anything, it swayed me to (the Jets). I?m not the kind of guy to run from a difficult situation. It swayed me in this direction to know the work ethic was already in place to win games.?)
Cimini's not going to put that in his article. But in his blog, it's different. If that's his opinion, he should atleast be allowed to say it in his blog
Why pin this on Cimini - I heard Faneca say the same exact thing on Michael Kays show... Actually I bet that where Cimini heard it.... No, it's not why he came here -But, it didn't make him walk away either.
What's wrong with Cimini's blog? He's right about QB, and he took a quote from Faneca to illustrate another point. Sure the money had a lot to do with it, but Faneca's a blue-collar guy, and it's a very good quote.
All I read was what Faneca said. How is that Cimini's fault? Should he have confronted Faneca or something? I won't lie and say I've read a lot of Cimini's articles or blogs, but this example should be directed more at Faneca than Cimini. Just my opinion.
Ummmmm. Are you missing the entire second paragraph HE (cimini) wrote. There was nothing wrong with what Fanaca said, it's the spin Cimini is putting on it thats getting old...
Cimini's right and wrong. He's wrong for assuming that Faneca is here because of the money and not that this team can pull of another 8 game swing like we did in 06... As the same time he is right because most of these guys say these comments because they know the schtick by now and thats what you say, even though your here due to the largest Guard payout ever. But to publicly post that opinion is just a bad idea. Not wrong, but a bad idea.
Because Cimini is a lazy ass schmuck, he assumes everyone else is. Faneca was going to be a very rich man regardless of where he went and if he wanted to he could have stretched this out for weeks and squeezed every possible penny out of his potential suitors. Everyone says the Jets offer was higher than everyone else, and I'm sure it was, but they basically came out with their best offer early on to blow him out of the water and get him to sign. If he had let a bidding war drag on, they would have eventually wound up in the same ballpark, but taken longer to get there. IMO, of course...
Man, I thought we had already determined that Rich Cimini was a douchebag. The guys writes a handful of objective articles early in the offseason and all of a sudden people forget that he hates the Jets.
Sorry, I thought that was KRhodesMVP's spin on what Faneca said. It's pretty much what most people think (overpaying him), just with a little more sarcasm. As I said, I don't read a lot of Cimini's stuff, so I'm not that familiar with his seemingly bitter attitude. But hey, it's New York right? Isn't that supposed to be typical of the NY press?
Cimini is not lazy or a schmuck...he has been pretty well right on through the start of Free Agency and one of the most accurate guys in reporting all of the trades and FA visits and signings. Cimini has been my best source since FA started...
