And how is it that you know that?

When did Calvin Pace become the best linebacker in the NFL.

It's not the amount of money spent that's "lunacy", but where...... Is Calvin Pace worth Pro Bowl player cash?

Geez I hadn't come here in a couple days, I didn't realize the initial report was incorrect on Vilma till I saw this post and then had to look back through other threads. That is a much better trade than the initial report.

I don't generally pay attention to the contracts because numbers are made to be fudged down the road anyway.

We overpaid horribly but in the end I'm still happy he's on board. I think we should and will still draft Gholston and have a sick rotation at OLB.

Who started this rumor that BT was playing a different position in 07 then what he played in 06? I can't get over how many people on this board have fallen for this crap. Makes me wonder if people are actually watching the games.

Okay. Did you actually watch the Cardinals at all last year? No, he's not a pass rush specialist, but he's always around the ball and is always making plays. He was one of only a few guys on that dismal D that played like they had anything to proove.

I never said he's been playing on that level for 5 seasons at OLB or anything, but it looked more like he finally found a position at SS OLB.

Thomas was on the strong side this year, and Pace is a good signing. Did we overpay? Sure, but it may not look like that over the next couple of years.

Thank you abyzmul... a pass rusher doesn't need a ton of sacks to have a gigantic impact on the game. Just look at the Super Bowl. The Giants got to Brady, not just sacking him, but on nearly every play they were in his face and not only did the receivers not have time to get open, but the plays just didn't even have time to develop at all and Brady was rushing everything.

Bingo! Everyone is complaining about the contract but the real problem is what you wrote here. Who cares about the money? Contrary to what some may believe it's not ours. I liked Pace coming out of Wake Forest and I liked when he was buried in the Cardinals' depth chart. He's an agile 270 pounder with a good motor but he is not a good pass rusher. And we desperately need a pass rusher. I feel bad that he was just set up to receive the Allan Houston in NY. You know the deal, a player signs a big contract and all of the sudden there are suppose to as great as the contract even though they've never shown any signs of greatness prior to that contract. If we did not have BT, this would not be a bad signing. But w/ BT, it's questionable. If you want to run the 3-4, you want at least one of your OLBs to be a "pass rushing specialist". We have 2 average pass rushing OLBs at best.

Bryan Thomas played quite well this year. He was unable to rush the QB much because of the scheme, so fans seem to think he is terrible. He is anything but. Watch for big numbers from Bryan because of what Pace will bring, allowing Thomas to rush the QB more.

If they didn't (and haven't) spend the money, people bitch. If they spend money on instant upgrades for arguably the most important fundamental positions, people bitch. There will be no excuses for CP, KC and TJ next year. This is what lets the skill players do their job.

The Jets didn't sign Pace to get 17 sacks a season. They signed him to do what he did last year in Arizona.
The guy on the opposite side needs to be the dynamic rush linebacker. That'll be Thomas till the Jets get somebody better.

There are a lot of homers on this BB. This is entirely too much money and will be looked at as one of the worst off season moves we've ever made, and that is saying a LOT!

Honestly who cares about the money? Would you rather we just sit around and watch the Pats and other teams in the AFC keep getting better. I am ecstatic that our front office is doing this, it has been an incredible offseason so far.

There's no way to know for sure but I'm pretty certain BT will continue to play the LOLB spot in the base 3-4 and Pace will replace Hobson at the ROLB spot. Either of the OLBs can blitz on any down but since is the ROLB usually comes from most QBs' blind side, he is usually the "dynamic" pass rusher. Even if you are correct and BT is that guy, I think we both can agree that he is far from a dynamic pass rusher.
