5th is basically a throwaway 4th...with some research and luck, you might be able to uncover a gem. Chances are against you, but the pick does have some value. I'm surprised we weren't able to get a 3rd out of Robertson. I'd peg his value at that, no more, no less.
We just signed Jenkins to a big extension, gave Faneca the biggest o-line contract ever, and we're bringing in loads of other guys, including Pace, who we want to give a lot guaranteed to. I think we may have already made our big signings, but who knows?
we were like 33 million under the cap, add 8.4 and we have a lot of cash to play with im sure the accountant will structure these deals to leave us in a good position going forward
At worst, this move keeps the Jets financially solvent and able to be flexible in upcoming years and not in cap purgatory like we were in the early part of the decade. Still, I think the Jets have enough room to comfortably accommodate a few more players. Tannenbaum knows how to work the books!
The front office is definately stockpiling picks to try to make a move up in the first round somewhere...I can't see any other reason for the quick moves of Vilma and Robertson
This is a great move by Tannenbaum- theres a real chance that DRob isnt any good- great return on this potential "bust" and great job getting the cap relief How could anyone expect a 3rd rounder for DRob?- Hes a former number 3 pick making 9 million a season and in 4 full seasons, has yet to make an impact This is an absolute steal and the fact that a clueless organization like the Bengals went for DRob, tells me hes no good. Now we just need to find a clueless organization to trade Pennington to.

I've always wanted to believe that Dewayne Robertson could be an elite player, but now I have a reason to stop caring. DRob has always shown promise, and one year he actually delivered, but if the CS thinks that he can't do it, then we will see what he does elsewhere while we also see what Kris Jenkins does here. For some reason I do not think I will be terribly disappointed.
Sweet so in the 4th round........ We will have back to back 4th round picks(CIN and NO pick right next to each other). Each will be the 12th and 13th picks of the 4th round respectively. Add the 3rd overall pick of the 4th round and we're not in bad shape at all. Alot of RBs will be in for a falling, and we will DEFINITELY be getting ourselves a steal of a RB in Round 4. Then again we may be dealing back in the 3rd round if necessary so.... The Bengals pick is the 11th pick of the 5th round too. We save money in this move too, this was just a move that had to be done. Day 2 is going to be very watchable now for all of us, defintely going to be waking up early Sunday morning glued to the TV.
This will just give us more ammo to move up into the 3rd round or move up back into the first round if we need to. We might make the picks, but there's a solid chance we package some to move up.

I agree- the more picks the easier it is to maneuver in the draft. If we hold onto the picks, I think we can snag some pretty good players in the 4th. Like BakerMaker said, there might be some really good RB that slips. Either way, I'm pretty confident Mangini and Tannenbaum will make that pick count somehow.
Yeah, remember Kerry Rhodes, Jerricho Cotchery and Leon Wasington were 4th round picks and Erik Coleman was a fifth rounder. It's possible

it's too bad Drob isn't going someplace like Tampa or Indy, but I've always thought there was a good player there hidden by a good soldier. I hope he flourishes, for his sake.
with our current FA signings, we HAD to restructure DRobs contract. Had to. And if DRob refused, we would have NO CHOICE but to cut him. We essentially swapped drob for jenkins, plus picked up some 4th round draft choices. with puoah getting extended and jenkins coming in, drob's place on the team had to be a question mark, especially for him. now was the moment to move him and get whatever we could get.
